Question Metal "click" noise when shifting into 5th gear (2005 6mt)

My car's manual trans is exhibiting a metallic click sound when I shift it from 4th to 5th gear. This noise happens on probably 70 percent of the shifts and only during this shift scenario. It sounds like it's coming from the shifter mechanism itself. Dealer claims there are not "stops" or adjustments that they can make.

Has anyone else come across this problem and successfully had it corrected? I called Infiniti and they told me I can get a "second opinion" but the next closest Infiniti dealer is located in another state (about 1.5 hours away w/o traffic). Thanks!

i am experiencing the same thing, but mine is more of a grinding rather than a click...

actually i first felt it at around 5k and back then it did seem like a click, but as time went on, it just kept getting worse and now at 15k its definitly a grind...

and apparently this problem is somewhat common on the 05 6mts,
i have an appointment this week to get it checked out

The noise is coming from directly from below the shifter itself. It sounds like two high density pieces of metal hitting each other... very matallic. I'll see if I can upload a video tonight. The shift is just as smooth as any other gear... no grinding.

Actually there is a VERY slight grinding sensation present during engagement occationally on the 2-3 shift (I need to confirm those gears) but it's nothing that I've missed a shift over and unless it gets worse I'm going to let that be.

The clicking is annoying because it only occurs on that one shift.... it might actually sound kind of cool in a sports car if it happened in every gear... kind of an audiable feedback to your shift. ... but it should not be present in the G35.

I've uploaded a short video of what I'm describing. Turn up the volume.
