NGK Iridium Plugs

In my never ending quest to mess with my coupe and gain the most HP for my NA buck, I am considering installing NGK iridium plugs. The cost is negligible ($40) but it looks like they'll be a pain in the a$$ to install (removing the intake, etc.). I have 17,500 miles. My question is, will I notice any difference in power if I install them (other than in my mind)? I've read the few other posts on the subject and they are pretty much inconclusive. Thanks.

I think on a higher mileage car, they'll show more of a benefit but for a low mileage car like urs, I don't think they will. It doesn't hurt, but I don't know if it's worth the trouble.

From what I understand about Iridium plugs, the major benefit of them is that because the contact points are so small, they have less resistance, thus create a larger spark with the extra electricity.

The question becomes whether or not our cars need a larger spark. Tested applications that showed the most power were drag race cars that needed more spark to help more thoroughly ignite the immense amount of fuel dumped into the cylinders each cycle.

So in the end, I have no idea. A dyno would be the only true test I would suppose. A butt dyno is usually mental anyway. Couldn't really hurt milage I suppose, but if anything, make it better.

I use the NGK Irridium IX on everything I own. I wasnt a believer and thought they were rice until a friend tried them on his Gixxer and recommended I try them on my FJR. Smoother idle, better response, and seemed like better mileage. Put them in the G, and I could feel the difference. For $40, its worth it. It made a bigger difference that the grounding kit, that's for sure. And you dont have to remove the plenum or anything to change them, just the intake tube etc. Takes about an hour to do.

The only DIY I've been able to find is in the Summer '05 issue of Sport Z magazine. It's pretty comprehensive.

they arent goin to provide a benefit (performance) if you are stayin in the same heat range. you might see something if you one step hotter, but dont use this on any form of fi. for fi you will need to go one step colder.

changing the plugs is realively easy. there is one bolt that holds the coil on, once you take it out just pull the coil off and then you have access straight to the plug
