How effective are supplemental oil coolers?

How effective would a supplemental oil cooler (like the one Stillen offers) be?

How would the cooling ability of a supplemental oil cooler compare to the cooling ability of fluted oil pans like those used with TT kits?

How are the benefits of a supplemental oil cooler different than installing a high-capacity (engine coolant) racing radiator?

Is the issue only engine temperature or are there additional benefits in cooling engine oil that a racing radiator alone cannot achieve?

Its all about surface area. A supplemental cooler will almost always have higher cooling capacity than just a finned pan. But,

Street N/A car with Synthetic oil = No need
Street turbo/no track days = possible need depending on climate
Street turbo w/ track days = definitely

All turbo rated synthetic oils will provide good thermal headroom for bearing preservation. But removing heat from the oil during operation will help maintain viscosity in optimal range without having to use a heavier oil. Can reduce pumpup time during startup and frictional losses all the time.

ballisticus is right. Not much need for a stock car. But I just added my stillen oil cooler. Its not in the greatest spot, but the braided lines run through the grill, and they dissipate heat well. Maybe no big power gains, but it's great piece of mind and i can just tell the car runs cooler.

Also, i talked to the dealer today. They say capacity with the stillen oil cooler is now 5.79 quarts., THey can measure exactly how much oil they put in the car. Which is good since the dipstick is useless. My G does seem to run smoother.
