Mobil 1 5w30 - changing every 4500-5000 miles. after 4000 miles i check levels regularly, as they seem to start dropping a little.

Wow. Everyone is really good to their cars on this board. My 93 Nissan pickup ran 330,000 miles on regular 3k intervals and valvoline 10/30. My G35 gets Valvoline 5/30 and my 300zx twin turbo gets Mobil 1 15/50. The key is changing the oil frequently and not the oil brand itself.

Amen. I've never run synthetic in a street driven car...just regular changes with dino oil. Hundreds of thousands of miles with no problems across several cars.

My C5 track car gets Mobile 1 due to the elevated oil temps from the track. It also gets changed before each track day.

I'm using German Castrol (GC) 0W-30. I'm very happy with how it seems to quiet down the engine. I've tried Mobile 1 5w-30, and it seemed engine valvetrian noise was way up.

There are various opinions on when to switch.

There are many here that say it's okay to switch at your first oil change, since some cars come with Synths when new. Others argue that those engines are spec'd with tolerances with Synths in mind as part of the design, so this may not apply to all engines.

A couple of Infiniti techs and Service Managers have told me that in meeting with the engineers from Japan during some of their up-grade workshops, etc., they were told that the VQ engine continues to break-in up to 20,000 miles! They were told that it is suggested to wait until at least 15k miles before switching to Synthetics. To be safe, I waited to 12k miles before switching as a compromise.

Bottom line, depends on whom you chose to believe, so you'll have to decide for yourself.
