Just a thought. Anyone try Auto-RX?

It's a very gentle engine cleansing treatement that's highly touted on the oil analysis forums. ie.. http://theoildrop.server101.com/forums/ubbthreads.php

This also seems to help treat seals that might have been slightly leaking.

My question is this. I wonder if it would at all help with some of our oil consumption problems.

Specific section discussion is here: http://theoildrop.server101.com/foru...t=0&Board=UBB5

Not really the response I was expecting.lol I figured no one here had any experience with it.

I might try it anyway. Although my drivetrain doesn't show any signs of varnish/gunk.

If the oil consumption is from excessive ring gaps or not equal tension around the 360 degrees of the ring............easy to prove with a higher viscosity oil 30>40>50.

How would a varnish remover help, now an oil thickening agent might?

I watching the consumption right now. I switched to Mobil 1 5w30. I don't expect much. But if there's carbon on the cylinder walls or maybe on the ring lands, maybe a gentle cleaning will help with the seal.

but you are right. If it's a big ring gap, then nothing short of a rebuild will help
