odd noise

Hey all..

I started up my G35C today... and decided to clean it out a bit.. just trash.. I had already been driving it earlier so the temp was at normal cruising temp.. G has about 5k miles on it.. been serviced properly and such.. now the question.. while cleaning it out I heard a random intermittent noise from under the car.. sounded like air escaping somewhere.. just a psttt pssttttt... it varied in duration of noise and didnt really follow any pattern i could hear.. anyone noticed this or have any ideas?

like i said car drives like a dream never had a problem.. dunno how long the noise has been there as i usually listen to the radio and dont hear much anyways :P also noticed no fluids leaking or anything.. and it wasn't my tires!

anyways anyone with ideas i'd be interested in hearing them

Re: odd noise

You know, I may have heard the same thing. Is it like a high pitch pssss pssss? It is not a consistent sound but there is always like a 1/2 second or second delay before I hear it again. I can especially hear it when I come back from driving and my car idles when I open the door.

Re: odd noise

Hrmm.. sounds about right.. it was just idling and making a noise like air was escaping somewhere.. about middle of the car.. possibly on the passenger side..

oh well.. guess till the engine falls out or i find some other issue.. it is a non-issue.. just seemed kinda odd.. prolly the poor G sighing that its gonna be turned off..

Re: odd noise

Perhaps someone secretly installed NOS with some automatic blow off valves while you guys were sleeping?

Gremlins I say, Gremlins.... Maybe they are letting air out your tires hehe. I pay attention to my car tomorrow when I start it up and see if I'm getting the same thing.

Re: odd noise

the sound comes from right infront of the passenger rear wheel right? It's the fuel pump.

Re: odd noise

sounds about right as far as in front of the rear pass wheel.. guess it is the fuel pump normal right ovayahead?? just never noticed it before...

Guess we know what that means? Obviously not enough mods to make my G so loud it drowns out the silly little fuel pump! oh well.. someday...

Re: odd noise

That a/c sounds like a good explainantion. Fuel pump I think wold be a more consistant sound. Yea a/c runs even when you have to heat on. I hate it how the a/c turns on automatically even when you have heat on.

Re: odd noise

It's the fuel pump. I remember bringing this topic up around last january. This is a noise air makes not liquid sizzling on a hot exhaust pipe. If you look under the car you'll see 3 hoses that run into a box. That's where the noise is coming from.

Re: odd noise

I have a noise that sounds like that as well. I brought it to the dealer, and they said it was "normal," but they couldn't tell me what the noise was. I am still skeptical. If it is the fuel pump, why is it intermittent? Mine is pretty loud, and it has no pattern in sound. It always does it, too. Sounds like whirring air/hissing/belt noise, and it is coming from the engine compartment. I will listen closer to see if it is actually coming from behind the passenger front wheel.

Re: odd noise

That's something else if it's coming from the engine compartment. If you have the 6mt it could be the throw out bearing. The 6mt G35coupe makes a good beat box. Someone could probably make a good Dr. Seuss rhym with all these noises.

-Hissing air coming from the front of the rear passenger wheel (fuel pump)
- Rattling from the transmission (throw out bearing)
- creaking doors
- clanging seat belts
- crunching noise when first pressing the breakes after taking off at start up. I don't know why I feel it in the clutch too, but I was told it's normal.

Sounds like a discription of a old school bus, but I still enjoy driving my G.

Re: odd noise

I always thought that noise was the sound of the ABS performing a system check?
