Impact Driver
Impact Driver
need your opinion, i also posted this on the tire section, can anyone tell me if this tool is good to loosen and tighten lug nuts?
this one has adjustable torque with max 300ft/lbs max if you use 3/8 drive..now this is an impact driver NOT an impact wrench I cannot find an impact wrench that has an adjustable torque. Thanks.

Re: Impact Driver
That product is a cordless impact driver. It is not meant to have the power to drive impact sockets. Read the description, it says that 3/8" max socket shaft and 300 inch pounds with temporary 850 in/lbs. There is no way that it can torque a lug nut with those torque values. Those driver drills are meant usually for "tech" nuts and bolts for applications like shelving or roofing. Don't get me wrong they are great tools for around the house or on the job but you probably won't see one putting lug nuts on in any automotive garages.

Re: Impact Driver
If you have an impact wrench already, and you want to use it mainly to tighten and torque your lug nuts to spec, you'll want a torque stick rated at 80 ft-lbs. with a 21mm socket. It's only good to install your lug nuts though, not to remove them as it'll break. You can just use a normal extension rod and impact socket to do the removal however.
The torque sticks are what some of the high-end wheel shops use to do installs. I was skeptical about their accuracy, but to my surprise, they check out to within less than +/- .5 lb. against a calibrated torque wrench that I tried right after one was used to re-install a wheel. the disadvantage is the cost, and they eventually wear out in daily shop use, but should last a lifetime for home use, even with a stable full of cars.

Re: Impact Driver
That's a good point... 80-90ft-lbs comes out to 960-1080in-lbs. Your cordless is rated at 25ft-lbs with temporary use up to 70ft-lbs. It's not the right tool for this job.
