Unhappy Cold Start Clicking Noise -- Sound Clip Inside

Just wondering if this is normal or not, but lately I have noticed that whenever I turn on the car, I hear a clicking noise. It goes away quickly however, I am afraid it could be something major. The sound is similar to marbles hitting each other; hopefully not bearing...

Car is an 04 manual with 50000 miles. I would take it to dealership but there are no Infiniti dealers in my area; only Nissan dealers and they wont touch it. Any suggestions what it might be? Im scared ****less at the moment and im afraid it might me engine problems. Help!!

Here is a link to what it sounds like... poor quality (used camera phone) but you can hear the clicking on it.

My clutch bearing does have some chatter, but it is not that. I am goinng to try to record a sound clip of when I startup the car to post up in here...

This morning it sounded somewhat louder than usual.

Hmmmm, check your engine oil level, it might be the same issue as the oil consumption problem that's been well documented on this forum, since one of its symptoms is engine pinging. I haven't heard what that ping sounds like, but you should check out this thread.

Hopefully you don't have it, cuz it sounds like a pain in the @$$

just my limitied knowledge, but if the clicking is coming from your engine bay and goes away when you car warms up, it may be your lifters, there is an oil passage that gets clogged and when the car is cold there isn't alot of oil pressure up there until the car gets warm

you might need to have someone look at your heads

like I said though I am speaking from limited experience, just a thought

Great suggestion! I just did an oil change and opened up the oil filter to check for any metal shavings and found none. I will look into this some more using a stethoscope...

Anyone else encountered noisy lifters?
