Re: pulleys

I talked to Ultra today at Stillen Day, they said they'd never heard of this problem (as posted somwhere in here...)

He gave me a card and promised that if I forward the thread, they'd give a full response to the "allegations"

cheers,ted

Re: pulleys

The text on the Unorthodox site is a pretty good description of how the extra power is achieved by the pulleys - and it isn't from underdriving the accessories. But their comment about a 15-30% hp increase is missleading.

There are real issues with replacing the crank vibration dampner to reduce pulley weight. The external dampner is there for a reason, and removing it will cause some extra wear and possibly damage to the crank. Is the G engine internally balanced or externally? Don't know.

Re: pulleys

Is the crank internally or externally balanced? I had a crank pulley on my '01 SS camaro because it was internally balanced. But when it came to a crank pulley I wanted the best even though quite $(even though most on the camaro boards used ASP pulleys), ATI (not the same company that makes superchargers)makes the best pulleys, balancers. But they are $, and I don't know if they make one for our cars yet. http://www.atiperformanceproducts.co...rs/dampers.htm

Re: pulleys

From what I understand, your gain is only a handfull of hp's. And looking at the cramped space and need for parts to come out to get to some of those pulleys in, to me it's not worth the chance of upsetting the balance of the engine, not to mention the time and expense.
On this car I'm not going to bother.

Re: pulleys

You know I am concerned about the aftermaket pulleys issue too. Spoke with a Nissan Engineer, he gave me the same story as the Dinan one.

Re: pulleys

I've been told 1) Our engines are balanced internally 2) the accessory pulleys are for looks only and don't do a damn thing. Only by reducing the weight of the crank pulley do you see any benefit.

I've had my crank pulley on for 8k miles, 11 autocrosses, and 2 days at the track, with absolutley no problems.

Re: pulleys

Does anyone already have the underdrive pulleys installed? i was wondering how much power we should expect and if anyone had any problem with them! Thanks!
