oil doesn't burn because of its composition, it burns because it gets by the rings into the combustion chamber. seating is supposed to keep this from happening.

My Son bought a new Jeep, it has the inline 6. At the first oil change he went full synthetic. It burned 2.5 qts in 1000 miles. He changed back to regular dyno oil and it is slowly coming back. It now burns 1 qt in 3000 miles.

Once he has the rings seated, he can go back to full syn.

Synthetic lasts longer because it doesn't break down like normal oil. After 5000 miles it will still have enough viscosity to properly lubricate the engine.

Organic molecules use term DALTONS to describe their SIZE.
Natural and hydrogenated Base stock oil is composed of various sized molecules whereas 100% Synthetic base stock use just 1 sized molecule.

All use additives which are different sizes so 90% the same or 20% the same sized.

Why synthetics has a slightly lower friction coeffficient.

I have been told by my service person that semi-synthetic should only be used on my Skyline 350GT Coupe because if fully synthetic oil is used, when you start the cold engine, there could be vibrations and it could be knocking or something. Have anyone heard of this problem for a G35 Coupe?

This topic has been heavily covered in the past. Real world experience...106K miles, went to synthetic at 12K...no oil burn or usage still today, change it every 5-6 K. You decide.

One of two possibilities here; A. he's a total idiot, or B. he's trying to see how badly he can lead you astray! There is one other possibility of course, C. someone is playing a troll!

Hi Jeff. Any dealership that would utter such nonsense, , is one to avoid like the plague and run away from as fast as you possibly can! If they don't even know anything about oil, then they are assuredly also not qualified to work on your vehicle!

LOL, I wish I could but the car is so dam fun to drive . Actually they are all hwy miles, 240 mile commute to work daily. Luckily I get paid for mileage so it allows me to replace the drive train every few years if I want and buy lots of mods.

i am an a.s.e certified mechanic with 10 years experience and heres my take on synthetic oil, once you use it you must continue to use it or you will get oil leaks (seals, gaskets, etc.,) do not start using synthetic oil until your car has atleast 10k miles on it but not more than 100k. synthetic oil is far superior to conventional oil in every way shape and form. if anyone ever says that synthetic oil is not reccomended for a certain engine they are STUPID. oil is a lubricant. engines need lubrication and they should get the best lubrication possible depending on driving habits.
