The coolant control valve with iso thermal spacer

I posted this in the tech area too but i think it would get more hits here:

I just installed the 1/2'' Iso thermal spacer from motordyne, great instructions and wasnt THAT hard of an install.

However it does say to turn off the valve under 55 degrees FH and then turn it on over 55 degrees, but does anyone actually turn on and off the valve all the time with the morning and evening weather?? Is it necessary?

Just wondering about that, thankyou

Yeah, you want to turn it off at higher temps.

I have it and yes I have had it open since November. We're seeing 60+ F again so I just re closed it. If your really getting down there (20's and below) definatly allow the coolant to flow again.

the spacer is the same as all the other ones the thermal upgrade is a copper spacer that bolts behind the throttle bodyto warm it up durin colder temps it runs the coolant thrpouch there versus the plenum

I talked to Tony of Motordyne about this. The coolant shut off valve allows the plemum to run cooler when outside temperatures are over 55 degrees. The valve shuts off the coolant flow to the throttle body. He also said that shuting off the valve when it is warmer out doesn't have any long term negative affects on ours cars.

what I don't get is that the car didn't come with a valve and so is it better to close it? cause I live in so cal and its been cold lately dropping to the low 40s (not THAT cold but still) however I didn't know whether I should leave it on or off

when I installed a little coolant did overflow but now my car always smells like coolant when I shut it off and am walking away and it is open right now I'm just not sure when to turn it off or just leave it on cause that's the way the car came

I got my ISO Thermal MD Spacer installed at the dealer and they didn't install the coolant valve because they said it would void my warranty. I didn't push it because I don't want any hassle with any other dealerships in the future, since I take my car to the dealership for all my servicings and have an extended warranty. Anyone else have any experience with this?
