Davis 'Car Chip'

Has anybody tried this thing? I saw it featured on TechTV after the CES show and thought it would be a good way to keep track of others driving your vehicle, but it looks like there may be performance testing/monitoring benefits too.

Re: Davis 'Car Chip'

I have one. Haven't actually plugged it into the G yet. Have used it on a Lexus GS300 and AcuraMDX, though. It's an interesting concept and good for diags, but really only if your car throws a code (in which case an OBDII reader would suffice). But if you're interested in recording accel/decel, timing advance, etc it's worthwhile.

Yea, it'd be good to see how others might be driving your car. I used ours to find out why my wife gets 20% *worse* gas mileage than me on the same routes and generally near the speed limit. Turns out she has a lead foot.

That's a great point. I never thought of using it to compare different drivers of the same vehicle. Well, I heard a little bit about it and that they're going to soon requier chips like this in every car to record information just prior to an accident.

Re: Davis 'Car Chip'

I read that my350z post and it's right on, IMO.

IIRC the best price when I bought mine was from www.provantage.com

Just make sure you get the E/X model; the base model doesn't have as many variables/settings to monitor.
