New to the Game, HELP!

Hey guys, I'm sitting here with a brand new g35 and I see all of you modifying and improving yours and I keep sitting back and I think to myself "I should be doing this"..

However, i have really no first hand experience modifying cars, but I have a general understanding.

Since I own my g35 i want to know the following:

What is the Best Modification to do to the g35 coupe that:

1) Will NOT void the manufacturer's warranty
2) Will result in a genuine performance increase (doesn't have to be huge, every little bit of HP counts and bonus if it adds a sharper look/sound to the car)
3) Will NOT cost an arm & a leg...

As a first time modification to a car that I own, what would be your recommendation on where I should begin, and where I should be progressing at what points in my car's lifespan...

Thanks in advance

Re: New to the Game, HELP!

That's an easy series of questions to ask, but a series of detailed answers would take "forever" to write. I'd like to help, but who has time to write a book for you?

The answers to your questions are already here... You just have to read them. Do searches, read posts/threads, ask your friends. Soon, you will have a pretty good idea where to begin. Good luck.

Re: New to the Game, HELP!

I had no experience at all modding myself. I started out with the easiest of all mods, 1st I ordered the clear corners and new fog/high xenon lights and installed them myself. It was a good place to start getting my hands dirty. 2nd thing I did was to order and have a shop install my K&N CAI and grounding wire kit. The lights were just for looks and the CAI "cold air intake" does increase HP and helps the car sound more agressive with the least amount chance to void your warranty in my opinion.

Re: New to the Game, HELP!

Well.... as was said above.. this is too long of a story to wtire. I personally have made 2-3 recommendations like this in the last couple of weeks 0 and they were fairly long posts. Why don't you click on my username and see all my posts and try to find out what's pertinent.

but as a quickly, since you have the requirement of NO warrany void... i would recommend exhaust (it will only void warrranty on the exhaust). A CAI (pop-charger is what I recommend) with the Z-tube will also be a good mod - but depending on the dealer, they may say that you void your engine warranty. Now we all know that that is just bullsh*t. It will be very hard to argue that the popcharger voided the warranty.

Bottom line: it is VERY difficult to do what you ask... no HUGE gains will be visible from the 2 mods I listed above. Plus, you on the coupe, unlike the sedan, your gains from the exhuast will be no more than 8hp/8lbs of torque, while the popcharger.z-tube combo MAY give you 6-10. So, best case scenario, you will be paying approximately $1200 for no more than 18 wheel HP (realistically more like 12-15). Serious power gains come from more involved mods, especially on the coupe, such as the plenum, high flow cats, and MOST IMPORTANTLY an ECU reflash to address these two mods. Headers will aslo give you sizable torque gains...

Cheers

i haven't done any... but it seems lots of people are getting good results from the Z tube. Its cheap, you can put it on yourself, and you could always take it off and put the stock back on if you need warranty service.

Re: New to the Game, HELP!

well yeah...

But you do only get 5 hp gain out of the Z-tube. And I figured that into the price I mentioned above (70). The popcharger is 120, while the exhasut is 900 + 80 install - all comes around to about 1200
