Just an idea...

I have been reading around a little and i haven't stumbled across anything really. Does anyone have an idea or how much work it would be to swap out an older non-rev VQDE for the new VQHR? I was thinking about it...my motor and tranny are starting to get up there in the miles and i have been saving for the day my tranny goes or my engine, which ever comes first. So with this in mind id rather have a new badass HR vs the DE, but trying to figure out how much work would be involved and if it would even be possible without spending a sh!tload of money....give me some input!

Also, if you look at the new Z, it doesn't seem as though much has changed for the body except the new hood. So with this in mind it might be easier than what it sounds...? No flamming! Just throwing a random idea out there!

good question i was thinking about myself....i had thought the mountings and space occupied would be similar to the DE with the exception that the HR is taller (as shown in the new Z)

ya I think it would be really expensive. Probably better off just rebuilding and beefing up your stock engine.

First, this is in the wrong section.

Second, this has been discussed in depth on my350z.com(not blaming you here). A lot more than just the engine has changed. Different ecu's, different harnesses, a multitude of the wiring has changed, and for the 6MT guys, the way the trannies bolt up is completely different. I don't know if the same applies for the 5AT guys.

Yeah, wasn't really sure where it went since it involves multiple parts of the car. I talked to my mechanic at the nissan dealership he actually said for me (auto) it would be a lot of work, but as much as we think. He said you would need a new ecm, dcm (i think is what he said), new engine mounts, then of course the new engine and new transmission and a couple other not so expensive parts. So i think when all is said and done to have a supercharger put on and have it done right it would cost just as much swaping in the new engine and transmission. The guy who does my work also does everything for cheap as ***** and knows what he is doing as well. I think it would just take time. We are meeting up tomarrow to talk about it. See which route i should go.
