So I get to work today and my car is spilling oil on to the ground like the drain plug isn't there. There is white smoke comin from my engine bay and oil all over the underside and rear of my car. I thought I saw some white smoke while driving in traffic, but I turned on the heater and didn't smell any burning, and my engine temp was normal.

Just had the oil changed a couple weeks ago but I have no clue what is goin on. Called infinitii roadside assistance and the tow truck is goin to be here in an hr and a half.

My mods are: MD 5/16" spacer and MREV2, front and rear tie bars, mid chassis brace, front and rear sway bars.

What's goin on?

 

Yikes...

First, check to see if the drain plug is tight. If you just had the oil changed, its possible that they forgot to torque it down.

If thats good, check the oil filter...it should be relativly tight.

If thats good, look around for a crack in your block...hopefully you didn't blow your engine! At any rate, I would put your intake plenum back on before going to the dealer. Let us know!

 

Check your dipstick.....

 

Yea no way to put take off my spacer and MREV2 since i'm at work and the tow truck is coming. I have no idea how I would have blown my engine, I wasn't even driving it hard. And I don't think i ran over anything since my front bumper is intact.

What good will checking my dipstick do? It'll tell me that I have no oil in my engine which I already know since it's on the ground.

It is probably something stupid like them forgetting to torque the drain plug down or filter falling off. It was not a drip, it was a thin steady stream of oil comin out.

If it's not installed correctly - it will leak everywhere when you drive...

Besides - I said check the dipstick - not your oil level...

Also - whoever did the oil change, could have a double gasket on the filter - and it just decided to leak...is the drain plug actually on? What's the highest level on the engine you see oil from? It does drip downward...

I didn't get under the car in my work clothes to check the drain plug. I couldn't see the oil in the engine bay.
I just got back from the dealer and my service rep is gonna call me when he knows what's up. Hopefully nothing too bad.

 

Cool...keep us informed...so from the sound of it, the dealer did your service then...so many weird things going on at the dealers these days...GL

 

Did you even open the hood and look?

 

yes. no visable spillage around the plenum area. the smoke was comin from down low on the passenger side.

 

Like where the oil filter is?

 

most likely, yes. it was a straight stream coming from the square hole in the underbody tray. i figure it was the plug or filter. either way, they f'd up. and the whole underside and rear of my car is covered in oil.

 

they might have overtorqued the bolt and now its stripped and not sealing...they did that on my bmw not too long ago...had to replace the oil pan...can to 600 with labor for the shop to pay...save some headaches and get a fumoto drain valve

 

if they overtorqued it, then i will be replaced under warranty or i will be pissed.
