"Servie engine soon" light

Today i took my gril off so I can paint it and then I went to the store to get some more fine sand paper.

then i noticed my "service engine soon" light came on.

i have that german castrol 0W30 engine oil in my car right now. could that be the problem.

should i change it to regular oil before i take it to the dealer so they dont try to blame it on that, if anything is wrong.

thanks.

doubtful oil is UR problem, most often occurs when gas cap is not fully "clicked" after refueling. Since its in warranty, let dealer check it and reset it...always good to get proper documentation of problems that occur.

Went to the dealer today. They made me an appointment for Thursday.

I was like "Well can they just scan it really quickly to see maybe it just has to be reset?"

What I got in response was "No, no they can't"

Except it was in a very rude way. I pretty much just got treated like a kid. Sucks.

I'd expect a little better customer service. I mean what if its something serious. Am I supposed to drive my car and wonder if I should be driving it?

If the car is driving normally with no strange noise or behaviour, then its probably a marginal fuel mix issue. Could be as simple as a clogged air filter or fouled MAF. If you don't have any mods, then nothing to worry about as they will just find the code and fix it.

Go to autozone and have it scanned and see what the problem is...you can clear it then as well...

^I was going to go to Autozone, but I rather go to the dealer.

And I am sure its something minor, I just hate the way I was treated. Most likely because of my age too. And I look younger than I really am to make it worse.

I don't have any mods, except I have 0W30 oil in my car, instead of 5W30. Can they figure that out and give me crap about it?

No they could not tell what viscosity oil is in the car without a lab check, and it dosent matter anyway cause that will not cause the check engine light to come on.Either you just filled it up with gas and did not tighten the gas cap enough or you filled it up with the car still running. It dosent matter either way if its under warranty.

You my sir have been lucky,in my shop i get more evap codes then anything else and it is mostly because customers do not either tighten the gas cap or have the car running while filling it up.

I would tend to believe the loose cap over the while running item...sorry. After owning 30+ cars, and filling each and every one of them up the same way...I have the same result.

Maybe it's a SoCal thing

+1
would you rather be raped by the dealer and be give some bullChit service? Just go to autozone and scan it and let us know what the code is, that simple. If no one can help you then go to the dealer so you can be raped.

Haha I don't think I'll get raped, but you never know.

As for my gas cap its fine. I double checked it as soon as the light came on.
