How to force manual start on 6MT ?

If your battery runs out, and you need to jumpstart your car, how exactly do you do it in a manual transmission? Ive always heard you could do this but Ive never seen someone do it.... LOL forgive the dummy question... I know how to drive a 6MT, I just happen to have never seen this done before...

It's push starting it. You usually need help. Someone pushes it while you're inside in first gear with the clutch pushed in and the ignition on. When you get fast enough, pop out the clutch and hope the car starts.

let it roll down hill... put it in first gear if going forward, in reverse if backwards... and pop up the clutch...

^^^^^+1, helpful tip make sure you have a stretch of open space as it requires a little bit of speed before popping the clutch.

Push start the G........

If you have a driveway like mine it's just a matter of pushing it out of the
garage.....key on......shifter in reverse and pop the clutch. Then head to
Sears for a new battery.

It's not a Jump-start... it's a Pop-Start.

Jump start is where you hook the car up to another running cars battery with jumper cables and then start your car off of the juice from their battery. Pop start is where you roll the car with it in neutral and the ignition in the on position, then quickly put the clutch in after it's rolling at like 5+ MPH... throw it in first and pop the clutch out so that the motor abrutbly starts spinning(in which case it should be started barring any electronic or fuel delivery problems) as a result of the drivetrain forcing its internals to move.

You can simulate a jump-start situation by going into an open area of a decently size parking lot... driving straight at like 15-20 MPH, putting the car in neutral and letting it roll, and then turning the ignition to the off position. Once that is done.. you should be rolling with the motor off at about 15-20MPH... now put the ignition into the ON position, but don't engage the starter. Push the clutch down and put it in second gear, then let the clutch up arubtly and the car should start back up. Just make sure that if you try this.. there are no objects to hit around you, because you won't have any power steering while you're coasting and your brake assist may also not function(although I think the G probably has enough braking power to stop the car without that pretty easily).

I do remember reading somewhere on an old thread though where if you do a pop start on a G35 that your car will backfire everytime you let off of the gas between shifts. If that's true, I guess it probably has something to do with the ECU being in a weird state when the car was started.. and maybe it didn't zero out to baseline starting conditions or something of that nature.

It's probably worth trying it once or twice so that you know how to do it. I've gotten out of a few jams in the past due to a pop-start when my starter or battery died unexpectedly and there was nobody else around to help me.

you should push it down a hill if you can and put it in 2nd and quickly pop the clutch off, POP START

...seems everyone forgot one 'lil tidbit of info...after u 'pop' the clutch, be prepared to blip the throttle, and re-engage the clutch...or u can just stand on the gas, and maybe make a new road

Never had to do that in any of my cars. Once it was popped, the fuel delivery followed on it's own... and you could just go drive away without hitting the clutch down again if you wanted.

If you want to nitpick I believe it's bump-start, not pop-start. I've never heard this technique referred to as a "pop-start" even though you must pop the clutch (disengage the clutch) once the car has been successfully started in order to minimize damage to your drivetrain. I've heard it referred to as a push-start as well as a kick-start, but you're the first person I've ever heard refer to it as a pop-start.

I know when I use to race dirtbikes I've done this a few times. It worked great for me like during a race after u crash and you are too tired to kick start it just roll it down the hill (if there is one) put it in 1st or 2nd then dump the clutch, starts right up. Never done it in a car though, but I'm sure it's the same thing. Oh and we use to call it a pop-start with the dirtbikes.
