Re: royal purple motor oil

I've used it for about three years. Two in a previous rig (Ford Expy) and now in my G. I put it in the G on the second oil change. Started using it after seeing it on a hot rod show (those guys on Spike TV). Dyno showed HP increase. Don't know if that's true but it has a good reputation as a synthetic on the truck boards. Longing to drop some in the tranny but haven't really seen the definitive word on what our Gs like besides the stock stuff.

Re: royal purple motor oil

The G35 5AT requires the Nissan specific automatic transmission
fluid. I also looked into synthetic tranny oil. You will find that the
5AT will not be under warranty if you don't use the specific oil
recommended by Infiniti.

Re: royal purple motor oil

Don't use Royal Purple, its a gimick and if you try to use it after 3k of miles it will sludge up. Many reports have proven this. The only real ones are Amsoil and Redline. Or shelf brand Mobil 1.

Re: royal purple motor oil

Hey! 1st post! How about Valvoline Synpower? I also have a VW Passat, and know it is one of the few oils to meet VW's standards. Mobil I is reformulated and I don't believe is full synthetic anymore... just want to make sure I make the best choice whenever I make the switch to synth.

Re: royal purple motor oil

Valvoline isn't a real synthetic either. Mobil was was TRI-synthetic, and now its a full synthetic again. But Amsoil is still the best.

I beg to differ, at least on your point about Synpower. Please see:

Re: royal purple motor oil

I would suggest going to Royal Purple's website where there are links to several independent tests including some from the tuner world. RP has an excellent reputation in the truck world, sponsors race teams and is a current sponsor of Hot Rod TV where I originally saw the product. Their products are also used quite often and recommended on the series "Trucks". Most often replacement with the product shows slight gains in horespower and lower operating temperatures. If you have evidence of this fraud please provide. My still purple motor oil, lacking sludge, after 4-6 thousand miles provides testimony to the contrary.

Re: royal purple motor oil

There's just something wrong with purple oil. I dont know of a single base stock, synthetic or dino, or functional additive that is purple. Seems like a marketing gimmick to distinguish it from the pack. Purple dye in motor oil cant be good, unless its in a lac in da hood.

Re: royal purple motor oil

These oil things always turn into a religious like debate. I'm not here to defend Royal Purple. There are many fine synthetics. It is regarded as one of them. Just do a Google search or there are some interesting links from RP's site. I don't believe everything I read especially from manufacturers selling their wares. Everyone always asks for dynos, I've seen the dynos. Maybe the car blew up 100 miles down the road but I doubt it. If such a report from Blackstone shows RP turns to sludge or any other strange substance please share the information. I'm sure we'd all like to know. Even if YOU have first-hand experience with the product I'd like your input. Maybe Hot Rod, Drag Sport, Tuner Sports and the other mags quoted own RP stock or are just plain stupid. It's possible but not likely. lol

Re: royal purple motor oil

Is there really a huge difference in choosing synthetics? I would imagine as long as you change the oil every 5K (with synthetic) you should be good.

Turning to sludge after 3K? Post the link to the report. Thats a huge issue.

thanks

Re: royal purple motor oil

Well, I've been using RP (street and track applications) in my personal motorcycles (both air/oil cooled and liquid cooled), trucks and cars for the past 12 or so years with no failures, complaints, issues... or sludge. Bikes are typically far less tolerant of inadequate quality lubricants than 4+ wheeled vehicles; and such errors can be very costly. I have come to have complete confidence in RP, based on personal experience; however, I'm sufficiently open-minded to examine any proof to the contrary... I would expect tangible evidence - not rhetoric.
