Pulled the trigger....

Totally emptied my checking account today... ordered Stillen cat back exhaust and Injen cold air intake from grubb's and a Crawford v.5 Plenum (black powder coated) from Doug at CrawfordZCar today... now I just need the time to install it all :-) Hopefully next month I'll be able to swing a few suspension mods and maybe new wheels/tires...

This is totally addicting....

Re: Pulled the trigger....

Fuzzy,

I kinda hate to say this seeing how much $ you spent, but GREAT! I've been looking to do the identical set up for my 6-spd sedan. Please let me know how it goes. I've heard a bit of grumbling about the "droning" noise from the Stillen exhaust, especailly at h/w speeds. Of course the manufacturer and retailers say "there's no problem." Please keep us posted on installation time, h/p gains, noise, etc. I can't wait to hear your results -- good luck!

P.S. Did Grubbs treat you OK on price, shipping, etc.?

Re: Pulled the trigger....

It wasn't all that much money... just all I had at the moment . Grubb's was awesome - pricing on the gear was great (use the extra 5% off code) and they shipped the same day. The new (v.5) Crawford plenum is taking a bit longer to get here... demand is high and I also wanted a custom black powder coat finish. Will post pics and my impressions once all the installation is done. As for the droning.... I didn't notice it on a friend's sedan - hope I don't on mine

Re: Pulled the trigger....

Hey that last meet must have really done the trick for you! That's the same combination that I've got and the results are great. Maybe next meet I'll have you give me a ride in your new wheels/tires.

P.S. Where did you get the 5% coupon/discount for Grubbs?

Re: Pulled the trigger....

G_Money -

Let's just say the last meet left me wanting just a bit more out of my car . I'll have the intake/exhaust mods done by the next meet, but it'll probably be late spring (Apr/May) before I can swing new wheels/tires. And, you're welcome to ride along anytime
Edited by FzyLgic on 02/07/04 08:56 AM.

Well it didn't take you long to get off the side line eh
The pleneum is supper easy to install. Install the intake by removing the left front inner fender liner, much easier than removing the front bumper. The exhaust is the only thing I'd be inclined to let a shop do.

Re: Pulled the trigger....

I'll do it all myself - I've been working on my cars for 25 years and if I can do it, I do it - unless I just don't have time. I'm very lucky to have access to a relatives garage with a lift, etc and that helps a great deal. I bought this car partially for the availability of aftermarket mods - seeing everyone at the meet and getting a first hand look at them, just made it sweeter... and it certainly helped me choose which mods to persue and probably saved me a chunk of change.

Re: Pulled the trigger....

Installed the Stillen cat-back exhaust yesterday.. It was a fairly easy job for 2 people (1 could do it, but 2 made it easier). Took just over 90 minutes start to finish. The hardest part was getting the stock muffler off! I really love how the car sounds now - deep growl. One unexpected benefit - my gas milage went up 2+ mpg... Last weekend trip to my brother's house 24.7 mpg, this trip 27.4 ( hope that continues).

Re: Pulled the trigger....

Fuzzy,

Sounds great! Are you satisfied with the package overall? How 'bout the noise? Does it "drone" too much?

Re: Pulled the trigger....

I love it. It is louder, but I don't consider it a droning, just a more consistent exhaust note - deeper, more present than stock, but not in anyway annoying.
