Amsoil

http://www.amsoil.com/storefront/xlf.aspx

My G is going to need an oil change soon. I'm thinking of going with Amsoil 5w30. Is this the correct link and place to order the oil I'm looking for? I notice there was a few different types of 5w30 oils, but is the XLF 5w30 XL the oil you all are using too?

Thanks for the help, just want to double check before I order.

go with the TSO 0w-30, amsoil's best offering for the VQ. The XL is an inferior product which was designed for the quicklube market, and the ASL 5w-30 is okay, but for the price isnt that great

why the 0w30? I was searched and isn't the 5w30 what the manufacturer recommends? My G is completely stock and I live in Indiana. Is 0w30 too thin for the cold weather?

If you really want an in depth explanation of why the 0w-30 is fine, then you need to do some research on bob is the oil guy, but to sum it up, the 0w-30 and the 5w-30 have nearly the same viscosity at room temperature, the "0" just means that is stays liquid to a lower temperature, which is actually better for colder climates. It has a superior additive package compared to the ASL 5-w30, and from used oil analysis tests, it has performed better. Thats why it should be used.

Sorry, ignore my stupid question above .

Thanks for the help redlude97.

One more question. If I go with TSO or ASL, how often should I change the filter and oil. The website says once a year, is that correct?

Depends on the filter used, but I personally wouldn't go more than 5-6000mi, I use synthetic for its protection/performance benefits, not its extended drain benefits.

I just changed my oil with Amsoil 0w30. I didn't order the filter through Amsoil, but got a K&N oil filter instead. If I change my oil every 5,000 mileage, how often do you guys think I should change my filter?

Thanks.

change it when you change the oil, 5000mi should be fine on that filter
