OIL!!!!

I want to know if anyone knows or uses Mobil Tri synthetic, or any other synthetics....or just any input on any oil that you've had good/bad experiences in. I've heard a lot of good things about synthetics but never used one. Anyone know advantages/disadvantages and the compatability with the G35? any input will be a great help

Re: OIL!!!!

I'm using Mobil 1 in my G now because of past experiences. My last car had over 170k on it. Never had a single engine problem, never had to add oil, and I was still getting over 35 mpg. I used Mobil 1 in it for the 12 years I had it. You shouldn't put synthetic in until after you've broken it in. Most of us waited until the first scheduled oil change.

Re: OIL!!!!

I think mobil tri synthetic is a synthetic blend. I personally would use full synthetic like Mobil 1, royal purple, amsoil etc. But wait until after at least 6K miles.

Re: OIL!!!!

Synthetic is the way to go, no doubt. It has better protection at the extremes (it can flow easily at very low temp and at startup, it protects under high temps and engine stress). The tests I've repeatedly read always point me to Amsoil, though the differences are not very big at all over Mobil1. Use any of the good synthetics mentioned and you'll get longer engine life and often slightly better gas mileage. You can alos go farther between oil changes.

Re: OIL!!!!

If you want to know about oil, syhthetic vs. conventional, Mobil1 vs. Amsoil vs. others, oil drain intervals, and things you never even thought about, spend a few hours... no, spend a few days over at www.bobistheoilguy.com. The guys over there are oilheads, truly addicted to oil talk. You'd be surprised how much you didn't know, and how much you thought you knew actually turned out to be false.

There are a few past threads in which many of us discussed synth vs. dino, and appropriate change intervals.... my take is to do some reading in this and other forums, and do whatever makes sense to you... whatever you feel comfortable with.

With that said, my last fill was Mobil 1 supersyn, 5W30, changed at 7,500 miles. The oil analysis did not return results as favorable as I would have liked, so I'm now trying a slightly thicker viscousity, 10W30, of the same oil. I'm up to 5K on my current fill, and should be ready to change in another month or so. I will post analysis results then.

Happy reading!

Re: OIL!!!!

I have Castrol Syntec oil that was used by my service department for my 15k mile service/oil change. So it is definitely compatible with the G35.

Re: OIL!!!!

Ok....from what im reading fully synthetic is the way to go, next thing, i've been hearing different mileages for the first scheduled oil change, more specifically I've heard 3750 miles instead of the regular 3000. When did you guys do your first change?

I was switched to Syntec at 17k miles. Next scheduled service is 24.5k miles.

Re: OIL!!!!

s_cru,

Make sure you check your oil level and top off during that interval. My VQ consumed about 1.5 quarts over my 7.5K mile interval and other VQ owners have reported similar experiences.
