Crank Pulley bolt won't come off
Trying to put on my UR crank pulley and I can not get the bolt off. Any suggestions?
I tried the 5 o'clock trick with the cheater bar and turning the car over. No luck. Tried brute force with a 2.25 ft torque bar, didn't budge. Maybe it will just have to wait until I feel the need to pull the radiator. |
There is flywheel/pressure plate inspection cover - lower driver's side of the trans - on the front. Remove the plate. Wedge a pry bar in the teeth to lock everything in place. The crank bolt is factory torqued to about 172+ ft lbs.
You should be able to get it that way with a good 1/2 socket set and and 18" breaker bar. Make sure your turning the right direction... |

The answer, let the car turn over two to three times, that is the way I got my off.:icon11: |
Yeah I just got kinda nervous though. Did you rest the bar directly on the ground and then turn it over? All that seemed to happen was it would raise my car... :confused2:
I also put the car into 6th gear and then went crazy but no luck. I am definitely willing to do this next weekend though. Thanks for the advice! |
I was nervous too.:eek3: The first two times I tried, I let the car turn over once, each time with NO LUCK. So i hoped back in my car and let it turn over 3 times, and when I checked the bolt was loose.:D Before all of this I tried the 6th gear and hold the brakes, which did nothing. I also tried what UR said, which was to wedging a crowbar into the drive shaft to lock the crank in place, still nothing.

I really appreciate the responses, it helps a lot! Next weekend I will try CruisnGcoupe's method first and if that doesn't work, then on to citymunky's and then finally Rick's method :thewave:
Thanks again guys. |
Put the car in highest gear, 6th, and have someone stand on the brake pedal while you remove the bolt. It works great.
