wideband

wideband

i know this is a stupid question but my friend gave me his air/fuel guage out of his car to use in mine. but it doest have a wideband can i still use it and it work properly?i thought the wideband just recorded your air/fuel with the utec or any other standalone

Did he just give you the gauge and nothing else? What brand? Was it simply an A/F gauge the fluctuates between rich and lean (narrowband) or was it a wideband?

its an auto meter guage im guessing its the narrowband cause it does fluctuate

All right then. A wideband will give you an actual A/f reading, and it will come with a wideband O2 sensor that you have to plug in, and usually a control unit of some kind. This may be integrated into the gauge, or it may be something that stays under the hood. Take a look at some of the different widebands from different manufacturers online, they explain what they are for and how they work.
