My tranny is holding up okay (knocks on wood), but I'm looking into making it stronger now.

Also 617, how do you shift in tiptronic, do you just bang it into the next gear, or do you allow the rpm's to drop first?

how many horse power
and how much torque do you have and how long do you own G35 (maybe you don have problems with auto transmission only because you own it not so long?)

...there are always exceptions to the rule and it will vary from tranny to tranny, but putting a cooler on it isn't going to make it last that much longer. You'll need a lot more upgrades to make it last past 400tq.
you are right i do not know the auto tranny on the g35 very well... however you also have to go back to build quality of your transmission as you stated... but a cooler is going to make a huge difference when matched properly... some of the supra guys were getting 500 miles per tranny on my same setup as well... it is just luck of the draw on some i guess but if you buy an oversized cooler like i did then it will work. granted not 100 percent of the time. you also have to be careful with oversized setups too... too big and you tranny doesnt get the proper warm up... this also will destroy the tranny

Generally automatic transmissions are stronger than manuals.

JATCO specs the 5AT at 333 lb/ft maximum torque to survive any amount of time.............no manufacturer uses HP [as it is rpm imaginary/variable].

So just getting a torque converter isn't enough?

Get a built VB. Don't worry about a torque converter unless you do a built trans.

anything under 400hp - vb upgrade, torque converter and tranny cooler will all be good ideas.

anything above - just go with a built trans.

When im in tiptronic, I let the rpms go down before hitting the gas, I feel like it gives the tranny time to go into the next gear before I mash the throttle again. Mabe its not helping anymore than slamming it into the next gear at 6krpms, but it feels like its less stress on the tranny.
