Mod your stock G-Tube?

Could you just cut the "box" and plug the hole of the G-tube?? Then the air would be a more direct flow instead of filling up the sound dampening "box"...

Not worth the trluble really. Z tube is cheap just swap it out. Also its not as smooth or straight shot as the Z tube.

Last time I checked Z tube was not that expensive.

And you can get it off of someones Z at the local meet really easy if you create proper diversion.

Thumbs up make your own from a 3 inch chrome exhaust tip

i took a three inch chrome exhaust tip abd cut the ends off and put in a hole for the vacuum hose at the top. looks great and functions perfectly. check my thread 35$ chrome z tube for a picture.

Biggest issue with your idea is the fact that the Z tube is a larger diameter than the G-tube. And there's nothing you can really do about that.

Just get a Z-tube and call it a day.

diameter is the same... they mount to the same TB and same air filter box...

Just remove the baffle at the bottom and plug it up. That's about the extent that I'd mod one. It's just a resonator reducing device to quiet the sound.

Really? I must have read the wrong info. I wasn't so sure about the diameter difference. But many stated the Z-tube has a slightly larger diameter.

The fact that they mount to the same TB & air box doesn't prove anything though, as they use flexible "hose-like" ends with clampers to attach to the TB & airbox.

I might compare them side by side if I have the time (doubtful). You might be right.

the accordion ends flex, but the diameter/hole doesn’t... the diameter of the throttle body is the same, the diameter of the air box is the same... the opening on either end is the same diameter... now if you are saying the OEM tube tapers on the middle then flares at each end, I find that hard to believe... I'm not sure where you read the diameter is bigger... the only real difference is the baffling.

i cut out that extra box and plugged up the hole. i don't understand the point of "upgrading" to the z tube. .01hp?

its the sum of the breather mods, not just the intake...

someone looking for gains from just intake, or just exhaust or just HFC or just plenum upgrade - will see minor to moderate at best... however, adding the proper combination results in more viable gains. In the case of Z tube, it's a more free flowing design and has been shown to help most configurations (combination of breather mods).
