I plan to get my car chipped soon
I plan to get my car chipped soon
I just found out a place that installs the unichip in the bay area. i am pondering if i should get it installed or not. i need assurance first for the nismo chip if it is goin to come out or not. i know the unichip does increase hp and torque but i would rather have the nismo one if nismo does decide to come out with a chip. i spoke to the sales department at where they chip the car and he gave me an estimate around $1100 for the chip and the programing plus dyno tuning. should i wait or should i install it now? i already have my cats taken out and now waiting for my exhaust. i wonder how my car will run with the straight pipe and the unichip. any suggestions?
Re: I plan to get my car chipped soon
i think you should wait till you get more mods for your engine. 1100 is a lot to just tune for no cat. Wait for your exhaust and at the same time do headers and upgraded intake. I'm not sure what else you can get for the VQ engine right now. If you can do as much as you can before spending $1100 on a reprogrammed chip.

Who told you that a 3.5 Liter V6 cant see good gains from a chip? 3 Series BMW's have always been known to have huge gains from OBD upgrades...Even the 2.0 Liter 4 banger Acura RSX Type S is seeing between 10-20 horsepower gains from ECU flash reprograming. Reprogrammed RSX's are running 13.9's and better now.
12-20 peak wheel hp from a stock RSX depending on the dyno and modifications.
15-20 ft/lb torque increase between 2500-3500 rpm.
Peak torque now at 3200 rpm on an unmodified RSX.
VTEC dip eliminated.
Very flat smooth torque curve. 95% of peak torque available from 2500-8000 rpm.
Rev limiter optionally raised to 8600 RPM (see valve spring tech information).
VTEC point lowered to 5200 rpm for cars with intake systems.
Passes Californian smog testing (no measurable difference from stock).
Fully dealer compatible - works with all Honda scan tools and equipment

If a Chip, Exhaust, Headers, and ECU upgrades gives the G35 Coupe between 320-340 Horsepower, ill be very pleased

Wuz up to all the O gee'z. Black i have to agree with Ovayahead i think u should get the other mods first spend the 1100 on that. This way u can see if Nismo comes out with a chip and if they dont u can get reviews on the other chip or chips that will become available . Also if and when u get the chip u will be able to have the dyno tuning done then . U may find the xtra ponies ur looking for . Good luck
Re: I plan to get my car chipped soon
Yea I would be very careful about buying a chip just yet. I've done a lot of reading on the Unichip (I used to be really into the WRX) and it's a really great product, but if I were you I'd definitely wait to see what else is gonna come out. Just cause something is first out on the market doesn't mean its the best...in fact, I'd guess the exact opposite. Just my .02 tho

Re: I plan to get my car chipped soon
no chip is going to give an N/A car, esp. something like an RSX, 20hp stock. 12hp i could see from a bit of dyno tuning AND (most importantly) bumping the timing up a lot
note is says: "depending on the dyno and modifications. "
unless the G's programming seriously sucks ***, i don't see much a chip will do for it on a stock G. You could play with shift firmess and shift points and whatnot, but i wouldn't expect huge gains from it if you're stock or near stock.

the only other problem with a chip is i voids your warranty .So the dealer said to me anyway are you shure you want to do that .I would wait till 60k.

It doesn't void your warranty unless they can prove that it was the cause of whatever you're trying to have repaired under warranty.
Of course, a chip could definately be a bit too aggressive and really be the cause of some problem.

BlackV35Skyline...you sure about those RSX specs? I've been in the modding/chipping game for over 15+ years and have owned Integra GS-R's.
Chips on N/A motors don't see much if any hp/tq gains w/o other mods so I too would wait to have one installed.
You wrote, "If a Chip, Exhaust, Headers, and ECU upgrades gives the G35 Coupe between 320-340 Horsepower, ill be very pleased." I agree - that would be very sweet!

Re: I plan to get my car chipped soon
Wasn't NISMO supposed to come out with a chip that wouldn't violate the warranty?
Is that still coming?
As for headers and exhaust... is there an ideal combination yet and a reliable mechanic to do the work?

Go for it bro. Nice to see someone doing something along those lines. Nismo won't be out with one for a while anyway.(if they ever do I doubt they'll back it with a warranty). You can always take it off if you need warranty work.
