06mt Rev Up DUD - Insight and Opinions Needed
Hello all. It's been a while,
I popped in to say that my Rev-up has the oil consumption problem. I just verified it today and thankfully the process didn't take too long thanks to the new TSB: (only 1 additional visit since I requested it)

So you'd think the dealer (with whom I've had all my oil changes) would have noticed my car being consistently low on oil. They didn't until I said something after I heard a ping and decided to check the oil level. I found it to be 2.5 quarts low! It was 983 miles since my last oil change so I brought it back and it was 12mm under the dipstick line. According to the new TSB it's time for a new long block.
The car has just under 12k miles and other than a spirited highway driving bout I've babied it ALL the time. I have a few questions for you experts:
(1) I kind of know the answer to this one but I'd like some other perspectives. I have the MREV kit and spacer on it now. Should I replace it with the stock components? (I would need to re-purchase them to include gaskets) I mean it's obviously a documented engine tolerance failure and no cause of my intake system why the oil is low so why should it matter? They can't void an engine warranty right?
(2) The car is a lease but I planned on buying it after it was up (this year) since I got such a good deal on the car. Will such a huge job usually have other negative ramifications down the road? More specifically would I just be better off turning it back in after the lease? (I'd have to restore the OEM wheels, exhaust [which I have], coilovers with camber and toe arms, and intake system.
(3) Anyone have an OEM collector for an 06mt? LOL

They already ordered the new engine and told me it would be around a month. The install will take approximately 3 days in which they'll give me a loaner.

she's in the shop (dealer) and I made sure to return everything engine related back to stock thanks to lekker_doom. I asked if anyone has had continuous issues after the swap and they told me no.
Hopefully, they weren't lying just to get me to shut up.
I'll let anyone who still has concerns about the engine issues know if I have any troubles.
Last week I talked to a guy with an 04 sedan with an oil consumption problem. His seemed unrelated to the manufacturing defect and possible related to the previous owner's abuse. It's weird however since it was an AT G35 and not the MT. -neglect possibly?

LOL Done man. For some reason I remember starting the whole process but I must have never submitted it. With two kids I never get to finish anything IN the house lol.

Got the car back Thursday and haven't really put many miles on it but so far it drives well. I have to break the engine in again (nothing over 4k RPM). I'm curious to see if they put the stock gasket back in between the upper and lower plenum as I used a sealant gasket since I had removed the MREV spacer.
I might put the MREV collector and spacer back on this weekend. The stillen exhaust drone is more pronounced with the stock parts.
The service manager told me she called around to other managers in order to find out if these upgraded engines had any recurring problems and she said no. She also told me that not many people have had the issue (about 3 at this dealer and close to the same in 3 other San Diego dealers) which leads me to believe people aren't noticing the problem or aren't doing anything about it.

2 engine swaps at dealer pricing has to be near %50 of the car's cost. Maybe they ordered the wrong engine? That's just unacceptable that Nissan is so hush hush about this. Once the car passes the guarantee they'll wipe their hands clean of the deal. Better yet, once the owner sells the car the next owner is screwed!
If I have to go through this crap again I will push towards them just issuing a payout and I'd just go buy a built engine. At that point I wouldn't really care about the engine and drivetrain warranty. One thing I have noticed with my new engine is that fuel economy is better. I used to never break 20mpg even on highway (19). Now I'm about 22. My engine was almost categorized a severe oil consumer though, so that may be tied in to my poor fuel economy.

Its not abuse. Its random. And its also happening with the Altima.
At least thats what the dealerships are saying.
