If using synthetic oil I go 7,000. With dino oil I go 4,000 miles. I don't use any time restrictions with either oil. The old rule of changing the oil every 3mos/3000 miles is just that. Todays engines are cleaner and the fuel/oil refinement is much better than it was 30 years ago.

But the tiny sump volume and filter is what limits oil life.

The drain plug is only 4.99 and it's the bolt and washer. it's really not that much. I always torque my drain plug too.

I'm not following why the drain plug needs to be replaced every oil change either. This is the first time i've heard this.

Also, are people really driving their G less than 5-6K miles a year? if so, why did you even buy the car? Unless you're in the service and got deployed, which is understandable..otherwise, i'd like to why you bought a car to not drive it more often.

I haven't changed the oil in the G35 yet, but I did it every 3k miles in my old Corrado. With synthetic in the G35, I'll change it at least every 3.5k miles or 6 months since I don't drive too much.

doesn't really matter. i've got a friend who also has a '04 g35 coupe 6mt, and he changes his oil every 5,000-6,000 miles. we have the same car (the only difference, his is gray, mine is silver, both bone stock except the brakes, and i almost forgot we have different tires) our cars came out pretty much identical on the dyno. i drive pretty aggressively, but this guy tries to have as much fun with the car as possible (he doesn't take the car to the track, and he's already on his 7th set of tires with roughly 35k miles). i have about 40k miles and i'm on my 3rd set of tires. i also change my oil every 3,000-4,000 miles with mobile 1 synthetic. my point is, if the car is n/a and you're running synthetic, you can do 5,000 miles no problem. once my friend did his at just over 8,000 miles, and his car was fine (i don't recommend this at all though, because the idiot only had 2.5 qts of thick black oil drain out). the whole 3,000 mile oil change thing was a gimmick from the 80's and 90's. it doesn't necessarily apply to cars today, especially with the more advanced oils we have.

The warranty document requires written legal proof of at least 2 oil changes per year, actually 6 months [180 days not even 181] is the warranty legal limit for oil life!
Failure to comply allows Nissan to terminate the warranty at their option on engine internals.

I drive my G about 6K miles a year. Its my daily driver. I drive it at least 6 days a week. It just so happens that things are close to me. But I do DRIVE the car.

For those that change their oil every 7k - 10k, what oil filters are you using? Do you just replace the filters at 4k-5k and top it off?

i just did my 4th oil change yesterday. i work at a local pepboys so i do the PM myself. I use mobil1 oil and filter. but i used royal purple yesterday because the store sucks and didnt have mobil1.

so im seeing how the royal purple holds up, from what i hear its a good oil.
but as far as the time interval between maintenance goes, every 3k. no more than that.

The drain plug doesn't need to be change, but the crush washer does. So you don't get leak coming from the drain plugs. You can't reuse a crush washer. It needs to be change everytime you do any oil change.
