gas millage

Hi I have a 2006 G35 COupe 6MT With Navi:

I am getting about 17 miles per gallon. and I drive about half high way /half road. I wanted to know if this was low or not? I bought the car used about 2 months ago. Is there something that could be old and needs changing that would improve this number? (fuel something....)

Thanks,
Kaveh.

Wow, 13? I just calculated my MPG yesterday when I filled up and I got 19.4 to the gallon. And this was the first week I've owned my car and drove it harder than I normally drive.

04 auto sedan.

I never calculate gas mileage, I don't want to know.

Am I the only one?

City I get 15-17 (although on my latest tank I filled up on the slow setting - supposedly reducing air that gets pumped in on the high setting, which means the gallon reading on the pump is off if you fill up on the fast setting - and it appears I will definitely be topping 17 on this tank with no highway miles at all).

Strictly highway I get over 24mpg

For about 50 years gasoline consumption in pounds per HP created has been relatively constant..............engines at best consume 0.45 pounds per HP hour. Super/turbo run richer and consume more at 0.55 pounds per HP hour.

We [engineers] just average it out to 0.50 pounds. How many HP does a car need to cruise for an hour at constant 55 mph speed say 25-30 or 12.5-15 pounds or 2 -2.5 gallons [22-27 mpg].

Reducing the HP created will immediately improve mpg.

It also depends on the gas station you go to. I have a Chevron next to my house and i ALWAYS fill up there. I always reset my trip counter on tank fills to see how i am doing in MPG. I average anywhere from 19-22 MPG on Chevron gas. I have filled up at Hess which was sort of an emergency and the results were just bad! My fills usually go at about 300-320 miles per fill. On hess gas i went 215 miles ! WTF. I didnt drive the car any different than i would of on a Chevron fill. Also, at that same Chevron i fill up at there are 2 pumps where i can get 300+ miles per fill constantly and the rest i could never get past 290 miles per fill. Again, this is confirmed and tested for the past year and a half! So far.....

Miles per fill:
Hess - 215-220 per fill
Amoco - 240-260 per fill
Shell - 225-240 per fill
Ugas - 270-280 per fill

I fill up everytime at about 16 gallons or so, which means that these averages were taken to a 16 gallon average fill and always on 93 octane.

Hope this helps out somehow. I would say to try out different gas stations and see what results your are getting. It took me a while to realize this and then when i started testing it i confirmed it. Just my .02 ^_^

ya i get ~ 16-18 mpg myself. dropped maybe 2-3 mpg since FI, esp on hwy cruise bc of the losses associated with the blower. needless to say, its not my daily driver.
