E-Z Pass in G35

EZ Pass says Infinity w/s requires an external transponder...mounts on the front License plate.

Anyone tried to use the inside windshield unit??

Anyone got any good ideas on how to keep the extenal unit from damage in parallel parking situations?

Re: E-Z Pass in G35

Interior is just fine. Mine's on the inside, and I've been using it for the past few months.

I saw that ezpass said no interior tag on g35, but on another page on ez-pass's website, the g35 isn't in the list.. Very contradicting. I bought the interior unit 'cause other people on this forum said it wasn't causing them problems.

Interior works fine, the battery life is just a bit lower, so you may only get 3 1/2 years out of it.

Re: E-Z Pass in G35

I store my EZpass in the Nav-less cubby and just plop it in front of the compass/temp display. Once in a while i've forgotten to take it out, but it still registers at the toll plaza.

No problem here. I am glad, I would have been really embarrassed if it didn't work on the GWB.

It's the toll reader in the NE, let's you pass through tolls and be billed later. It's called M-TAG in other areas.

It's also called something like "I-Pass" or something in the illinois/indiana areas.

No complaints here either... I roam all over the NY/NJ area and have never had a problem with my tag being read.

Re: E-Z Pass in G35

I use mine in the stock compartment where the stock navigation would go if I had it. It works fine even with the door closed. What I suggest if you're having some trouble, just open your sunroof a tiny crack before going under the EZ pass and it will have more of a chance of registering. You also have to understand that the EZ pass is not a scanner, it's a transmitter that responds to movemnt. Going slower HINDERS the registration of the EZ pass. The faster you go the more chance you have of it registering. Just remember not to go above 22mph or you could get a ticket. If you go through and it dosen't work, a picture of your license place will be taken and sent to EZ pass. If you have an account, they will charge your account and not send you a ticket so no biggie. If it happens alot you will get a notice in the mail saying that your EZ pass is broken and you should call them to get another one and return the one you have.

Thanks - Joey Avino

Re: E-Z Pass in G35

MyGUnit,

I have a friend who painted his E-Pass black. It looks much better IMO and is very difficult to see from the front. It looks just like you're looking into the rear view mirror back.

He found out the hard way that you DO NOT own the unit and when it comes time to turn the unit back in, you'll be charged for the full replacement value. He went in to get his battery changed out and got hassled. This happened in FL recently, so your state may vary. His recommendation was to just go to Home Depot and purchase your own battery, and not get the freebee from the E-Pass Authority. I haven't painted mine, yet... but have been considering it for about 2800 miles now

Re: E-Z Pass in G35

I was thinking of just putting some black tape on the unit...this way if I have to replace it I can just remove it...
I also picked up this nice black plastic holder for the unit.

It requires you to remove the velcro pcs on the unit....
the unit slips into this holder and its attached to the windshield using two suction cups....

It works well....and I can pull the ezpass unit out and lock it up in the glove box when left unattended.....the best part is the holder is only a couple of bucks.... just my.02
