Re: Best Accelerometer ?

I'd like to hear from people that are using the G-Tech Pro Comp model. To me, having the LCD screen gives it such a huge advantage over the other models.

Re: Best Accelerometer ?

I have the Passport GT-2 which is the same I believe as the BEL FX-2. Seems to work well, and it's compact and easy to set up. I wish it came with the computer cable rather than it being an option though.

I've heard good things about the G-Tech Pro Comp. Only complaint is that it's not great to look at, but gives lots of useful information. Also check out the Apex-i Rev/Speed Meter.

The local Best Buy is clearing their GT-2s for $259 CDN (~$200 USD). You should be able to find it for less than that I'd expect, since these things are usually less in the US.

Re: Best Accelerometer ?

Don't get the G-Tech Pro. If you want one I'll just send you my old one.

If you're gonna go G-Tech, buy the G-Tech Competition Pro. Totally different unit. Very cool.

Re: Best Accelerometer ?

I have the G-tech comp pro too. I think I paid $250. It's awesome. The best feature is the rev lights to tell you when to shift w/o looking at the tach.

I wish there was a slick way to mount it permanently though, I'm trying to figure that out now. Has anyone done this for the G-tech comp pro?

I'm calibrating mine to the strip over the next month or so. I'll post times and results soon . . .

My stealthy Passport (GT-2) G-Timer mounted in the cubby. Close the lid & it's out of sight. I do wish it had the shift light though...

Re: Best Accelerometer ?

Ted,

Look NO further than the GtechPro Competition. Nothing even comes close. It is the only one with 3 accelerometers (the 3rd, obviously is for the Y-axis). As far as I know it is the only one that is firmware upgradable, comes with the serial cable to conenct to a PC for data downloading. It is also the onyl one that comes with the GtechPass PC program to view all the telemetry data (dyno style charts of NET horsepower, RPM vs speed, HP vs time, Speed vs time, distance vs time, etc, etc). Firmware upgradeabilty was what sold it for me, in addition to the shiftlights (it connects to your cig lighter and gives you your rpms as well), and lateral G-force alerts (via LEDs).

Shader7, I have actualy taken mineto the track and compared gtech times to actual times. With very poor launches (hopping, spinning rear tires - and that's bad b/c it can potentially throw off the G-force sensors) my Gtech was within 0.1-0.2 seconds accurate (which is what Tesla - the maker- always claimed), and that's with only 2 of the 3 accelerometers being used. THe 3.1 firmware due out in the next month actually begins to use the 3rd (vertical axis) accelerometer for pitch correction. They took it to the track, andthe new firmare was within 0.02 seconds of the actual track time.

There is just no other accelerometer that is worth it! Also, they are coming out with an Autocrossing firmware from what I heard - so it's a plus for Auto-Xers. THey are great people to deal with. My AC adapter burned out (probabbly from connectingit to the wrong device - not sure), they sent me another one and it arrived in 3 days.

Great people.

Re: Best Accelerometer ?

Yea, I did quite a bit of research before I got the G comp pro. I need a few more track runs in the warmer temps and I'll post my track/Gtech comparisons.

Gurgen, for your comparisons, were you staged or was it a true tree start? My first runs were solo, medium staged. The times were pretty close to the G tech pro comp. As I went from medium to medium-shallow they were extremely close. If I went as shallow as the track would allow the G tech showed better times (which you would expect).

I must say it's an awesome little device. I just need to find a spot for it now to make it semi-permanent. I have Navi so that spot is out.

Re: Best Accelerometer ?

Shader

it was a true tree start at the track (but of course just staging on teh gtech).. I was stagin very deep (as deep as you can). I am not sure how many inches of rollout that equals to at the track, but my gtech is set for a 12" rollout. I have heard that deep staging at the track is more than 12 inches, more like 20. My Gtech was showing 0.2 seconds slower. So, I bet if I had entered the true rollout distance into my gtech, or staged at exactly a 12" rollout on the track, I would get VERY close to teh actual time.

As far as mounting, I do not mind the windshield. Up until now, I had it mounted to the right of the instrument panel "hump", but recently I took the left a-pillar off and wired a separate line from the fuse box to mount the Gtech to the left of the "hump", adjacent to the a-pillar. If you can find some high strength adhesive, you can probably glue the mount onto the dash surface, but I am unwilling to do that for a couple of reasons (aside from the obvisous).

Re: Best Accelerometer ?

I'm looking forward to the firmware upgrade because the hood of my car lifts noticeably in 1st gear and I think it affects my times.
