Question about resetting the ECU...HELP!

Hi. So I've heard about the ECU reset where you have to do a series of presses and releases of the gas and so on to do a quick ECU reset. But, I've also heard about one that requires the battery terminal to be disconnected. How long is the disconnection required for the ECU to be properly reset and how long do I need to drive it for the ECU to record the more agressive driving style? Thank you in advanced for your answers, they are appreciated.

I can tell that you have not read the Easy ECU reset thread.
It has been stated by InfinitiTech that the proper way to reset
the ECU is to disconnect both positive and negative battery
terminals. Then touch the terminals togeather for a minimum
of five seconds. I have done this. The only problem you may
have ( I had) is the terminals are too short to touch. I barely
got them to touch. You may want to touch them both to a
screwdriver?

I've seen another Infiniti tech mention that the TCU (transmission control unit) is adapting to what you've done in the last 50 miles.

Touching your cables together is not a smart thing to do. I'm sure Infiniti does not subscribe to this method officially. What you heard was one poster claiming that, who may or may not be a certified Infiniti Technician. I doubt you'll find that method listed in the Infiniti service technical manual. Heck, I thought he was joking. Sort of like a prank to pull on the unknowing. It may be a quick jury rigged way to do it, but then again it might fry a few things too. I'd call my local service advisor first before getting in the habit of rubbing those cables together.

Re: Question about resetting the ECU...HELP!

If you just want to reset the ecu so that it will more quickly a new mod then all you have to do is disconnect the negative battery lead only for just a few seconds. You will lose your radio memory settings. If your goal is to get rid of a CEL light then you need to use the gas pedal method.

This is not opinion but fact. I had a CEL light and I disconnected the battery for over 12 hours and the CEL was still present. I went thru the gas pedal method and it cleared it immediately.

As for proof as to whether disconnecting your negative battery lead resets the ecu, I recently installed a popcharger. Before doing so I went to the dyno and my a/f was 12.8-13.2. After installing the popcharger my a/f ratio was 14-18 which is very lean. I then disconnected the battery and immediately re-connected it. The car never left the dyno pad. My a/f ratio was back to 12.8-13.2, right where it should be. If I hadn't disconnected the battery, the ecu would have learned the new mod but it probably would have taken a couple hundred miles to do so. So, I either drive a very lean car for a while or have to reset my radio stations. Pick your posion.
