Squeak - in the throttle body?
Squeak - in the throttle body?
Looking for comments on this issue on my 6MT Sedan:
When I tap the gas from idle, I hear a quick squeak before the revs climb. Sounds like the valve in the throttle body (Correct me if I'm wrong: by throttle body, I mean the thing that the intake tube connects to) is scraping against the body itself.
During low end acceleration (under, say, 3000rpm), I can hear a longer, higher pitched squeak (sounds like a dusty brake) that stops when I let off the gas.
I noticed the first part of the noise right after I put in the Z intake 3 months ago, so I'm guessing I did something. In the last week or two, I'm noticing the squeak during acceleration.
Any ideas on what to do?

Take off the Z tube and make sure everything is copacetic!

What do you have the Z tube connected to...A Pop Charger?? or the stock air box?? I had the same thing, and it was the Pop Charger whistle...I just changed to a Nismo CAI, noise is gone....

My Z tube is connected to the Stillen HiFlow AirBox.
I love the combination!

Sack,
My '04 6MT sedan does the exact same things you describe; it's been bothering me because I just noticed it a few weeks ago. My car has 8000 miles/8 months on it; intake mods are Z-tube and K&N filter only.
I'm anxious to see any additional posts here. Very good description of the sounds; I wasn't sure how to explain it.

DEJim - glad to know I'm not the only one with the problem on that setup. Still don't know what to do about it.
I took off the tube and checked the valve - It seemed to move fine and with no scraping or contact.
After reinstalling the Z-tube, I used a stick to rev it a bit while getting my head as close to the throttle as possible. The initial squeak sounded like air getting sucked past a closed valve - I'm guessing it's caused by the vacuum created in the split second before the throttle opens up.
Could not replicate the squeak during acceleration.
Anyone else with ideas?
