When to replace drive belt? whisling noise
I'm not auto expert but for some reason, my gut tells me its the drive belt.
I would hear this chirping/whisling noise whenever i would drive the car 40+mph. If i tap on the brake while cruising above 40mph with the chirping noise, alil tap on the brake would stop the noise but when i speed up pass 40, itll start chirping again. SO is this the drive belt or what? easy to do it myself? |
the throttle bodys or intake also whistles like this...also, does anyone know if we have timing belts or chains?

IF it's your belt its not that difficult to change yourself, there's a great DIY written up by NISMOG that you can follow.
Crashes: Chain |
Yep, i think i had that same noise you've described. I've just changed my alt/ps and a/c belts yesterday and the noise when away.
If your belts are still decent, just tighten it a little. Belts do expand in some time and causes more slack than recommended. I noticed that a/c belt(the smaller one) was a little looser than the alt/ps belt. So my best guess is, it's the tension pulley for the a/c belt was making that noise. |
Where is the DIY for the belts swap?
Hey guys,
I searched for NismoG's DIY and couldn't find anything - can you throw up a linky for me? I have to replace my alt and my a/c I think and my shop wants like $90 EACH for something they said takes 10-20 tops! So i want to try my hand at it. Does it require any special tools? How much are belts and are there an assortment of brands/types to choose from? Or do you just go with the Nissan branded ones? Thanks, Al |
