Custom G35C Engine Grounding/Earthing Kit
I recently received and installed the Earthing Kit from Guy (insanemaine on my350Z.com). He custom designed an Earthing Kit for the G35C after I emailed him some measurements and photos. I am quite pleased with the turn around time, as I had the kit in no time!
The workmanship is truly professional. Instructions were very detailed and installation was a no brainer. I think it took me 15 - 20 minutes.
Well how does the car perform with this kit?
Performance wise, there's a smoothness that's noticeable above 4000 RPM; subtle but noticeable. Throttle response appears to be more responsive and the shifts on the 5AT are definately much snappier. I even got the tires to break loose from 1st to 2nd!!!!
Nismo offers an Earthing kit as a performance option on the Z in Japan.
What does the Grounding System do?
The Grounding System can achieve an extreme improvement on electricity flow and stability by providing a direct ground path from the body, chassis and engine components to the battery negative.
This theory has been known & such system has been used in the racing world for years. Since 1.5 years ago, it has become the hottest modification performed by car enthusiasts in Japan. Its effect on automobile has been proven by dyno tests again and again.

Thanks for posting BILLR. I too have sent away to Insaneamine of My350Z.com for a kit. He does quality work and has a good rep.
You say the kit went on very easily 15-20 minutes? So all the connection points are reasonably accessible then?
And the cost was $75 US. Was that including mailing?

All access point were VERY accessable once the motor cover was off.
As far as dyno info, check out the my350Z.com link I posted above.. They do have dyno and test results.
If you are skeptical, then don't get one. I personally think it was money well spent and *I* notice an improvment on *MY* car. You want some improvment, buy a kit or sit here and debate it to death.

None, according to Turbo Magazine when they ran their dyno test. Moving the grounding points around got them more power.

Now down to business:
Automotive electrical and computer systems are designed to tolerate up to 100% noise on its input lines. Meaning, if the ECU is expecting a 12-volt input signal, the signal may vary in the range of 0 to 12 volts. Fluctuations in signal are due to noise in the system. Noise is generated by spark plugs firing, discharges through the tires to the road, alternator turning on/off, etc. In other words, there is a lot of inherent noise an automotive electrical system.
One of the best-proven ways to compensate for noise is with proper grounding.
When measuring a DC (direct current) signal, almost any kind of wire will due. However, when measuring a high frequency input (i.e. the mass air flow sensor or the air/fuel mixture sensor) it is necessary to run a ground wire in parallel with your signal. The engine grounding/earthing kit provides grounding along side each signal wire.
The G35 Engine Grounding/Earthing Kit allows for cleaner data transfer to the ECU. The result is more accurate measurements by the ECU and therefore more accurate performance, smoother idle and acceleration.

DIY Custom Grounding Kit
You will need:
11 feet of 4 gauge heat & chemical resistant insulated high purity copper cables.
10 - 3/8” gold plated ring terminals. Generally they come in packs of 2 or 24.

10 - 1 ¼ pieces of ½” diameter heat shrink tubing. Usually sold by the 4 ft lengths. OR, you can use the rubber boots that come with the terminals. I think heat shrink looks better!
1 - Heavy duty wire cutters.
1 - Sharp knife to trim wire insulation.
1 - Heavy duty crimp.
1 - Heat gun
Some patients. ;p
Cut wire into 5 pieces, to these lengths:
#1 - 16" - Left side of intake manifold to front of the engine.
#2 - 19" - Left side of intake manifold to left side chassis ground.
#3 - 26" - Left side of intake manifold to the negative connection of battery
#4 - 30" - Rear left of intake manifold to front of engine.
#5 - 32" - Rear right of intake manifold to front of engine.
Do one end at a time. This way the bare ends will not get frayed.
If using the rubber boots, it is easier if you put them on the wires before trimming and crimping.
Trim approximately ½ inch of insulation off the end of a wire. Insert bare wire into ring terminal and crimp. It is best to start the crimp process with a large channel lock pliers so the finished crimp will be nice and fold over itself. Test for secure crimp.


Repeat the above procedure till each end of the wire has a ring terminal on it.
Heat shrink or pull rubber boots over terminal to finish.

One quick question we've heard often: Is it possible that the Grounding Kit may contribute to better gas mileage? From all that I've read, it would seem that it would due to better data transfer and smoother running engine. Have you any info on this, or is the net gain so slight that it's not a factor?
Can you also locate and post a dyno chart of the h/p gains from installing the kit? I understand there is one (or more) on my350z.com .

I drive my car too hard to have noticed better gas mileage. ;p
