Unleaded ok, gas milage?
Unleaded ok, gas milage?
hey guys, I know this thread has been made before but I found no help from it.
So I am wondering if a super ultra lightly used g35 automatic trans,as in I would never let the rpm go above 2000, would run fine with unleaded?
Also would it detrimentally effect the g35 if I used regular, like would my engine deteriorate 20x faster?
In addition, what is the best gas mileage you guys have gotten before with this car, is 25mpg a possibility with automatic transmission?
I would use premium its just I am a high school student, and no my parents are not rich I just got a g35 for a crazy deal(35k miles 2004 for $14,900), and my school is only 2 or 3 miles from my house and I just think I would not be using all the power the g35 has for my engine to need premium. is this wrong thinking?
thanks

Yea just to make sure you're clear... they're all unleaded, only difference is the octane level. Honestly for the 3 extra bucks a tank (even with these prices), it's a cheap insurance plan to protect your ride... well worth not buying a couple of sodas or what have you a week. Also consider that the ECU and O2 sensors calibrated to run at least 91 (though not sure on the AT's but considering even the frontier VQ's need 91...). Also don't cheap out and stick with top tier stations, not your local grocery store gas/costco/ect. Take care of your car, it'll take care of you.
I do not think it is an wise idea for putting 89.
Give the car the gas it deserves, you should know that G35's need premium not unleaded in the beginning. If you can not afford the gas then you should not purchase a g35 even though you got it for cheap.

Best Advice I've seen recently....!

Gary
i get better mileage with 94 octane and better performance as well vs 92 octane. it's basically the same price in my area. so i'm thinking if you use worse octane you'll get less performance and less gas mileage.
oh and also, everyone keeps giving you the same answer kid, in both of your threads so stop wasting server space and put regular gas in ur car if you want hahhaha

in the end using octane will only save you a few hundred per year. just dont punch everywhere you go. not only will your gas mileage suffer but there could be possible engine knocks. in ISx50's with header mods. lower octane guels causes knocks.
unleaded 87 is ok and perfectly fine.
I used to put 87 in my PREMIUM ONLY acura legend.
then just recently at a meet here I met two 350Z guys who told me they've been putting 87 octane for the past 4 months and they've been fine... You have knock sensors for a reason, and your ECU would adapt to it.
Its quite possible to be in an area that only has 87 only ya know.

Oh gosh....I never had the ***** to say that but that is very true....modern day technology in cars can adapt to whatever octane...
Heard it from Ed Wallace (Car Critic) who is published in:
-Business Week
-Detroit News
-Bloomberg Auto
Seen On:
Fox in DFW every Friday morning
Heard On:
His Radio show "Wheels With Ed Wallace" every Saturday Morning
I trust his word because he has been around the block a time or two...
Also true that you get better gas mileage with 93 octane...atleast with my experiments...i use premium for that reason
^ finally someone steps up and agrees with me for once.
87 IS FIIIIIIINE!
I didn't even have to hear it from anyone. did it myself in my old car and I even met in person 2 people that do this to their 350z's... Guess what! They still kick my *** in a race and they probably get better mpg than me too.
I run 91 because its cleaner and IMO its just peace of mind

our cars ECU will retard the timing in order to prevent knocking... but c'mon guys, its gonna cost you 8 dollars more for a full tank(20gallons) in the G and thats if 91 is 40 cents more than 87. u also get better mileage(i would guess maybe .3 to .5 miles more per gallon but if you only drive 2/3 miles to/from school.. that'll add up.
Just to be clear guys - THERE IS NO DIFFERENCE IN MT/AT!! They BOTH need 91. Whoever says 89 for ATs and 91's for MT is WRONG. The Sedans AT I know in 03/04 say 91 RECOMMENDED for maximum performance, but for all year coupe AT, 91 is required.
I run 89 not a problem, didn't notice a bit of difference in the way the cars drives. Its a stock mass produced motor with only a 10.3 compression ratio, not that high. run anything you want the computer will make the needed changes and you might lose like 5 hp.
