Doesn't affect 03-04, its for the 05-06 with the REVUP engine (298HP)

 

^^All engines are having oil consumption problems. It is more profound on the 6MT's of all years, and much more common on the 05+ motors. I have a friend who went through almost 5 qts every 3k miles on an 03 or 04..can't remember the year.

 

Might you be talking about flywheel chatter? I didn't see any mention if your car was a 6mt or not. I've heard flywheel chatter in OEM and aftermarket flywheels.

 

I have a 6MT, it could be, it seems its right after the clutch engages and I give it throttle, then goes away.

 

I have the same problem. Whenever I give it throttle, it makes a noise like something is winding up. Then when I shift, it makes a little whistle noise. I thought it was just me but I had one of my friends sit passenger and he heard the same things I heard.

 

Guys like I mentioned I had the same problem/sound. I brought it to the dealer and it was the rear axle spindles. There is a TSB on it and the repair was only $100. They just had to clean and grease the spindles and it was as good as new. The issue is caused by the spindles becoming loose and when you accelerate the slack is removed and causes the clicking.

Hope this helps and if you are good at DIY the TSB shows how to do the repair. But for $100 it was worth having the dealer do the work for me.

so this wasnt covered under the warranty??

 

It was not covered under warranty for me because I was over the 4 yr 40k bumper to bumper warranty. It is not covered under the longer drivetrain warranty. So if you are still in your bumper to bumper warranty it will be covered. With it being a fairly common problem I thought it might be covered but it was not.

I am just glad the clicking noise is gone. It was starting to get rather annoying!

 

UPDATE:

I had them do the rear axle TSB, but the problem is still there. Beginning to wonder if it is perhaps the pinging issue I have seen posts about? It is only lower rpms.

 

Are you talking about an engine ping? If so I would think that sound and a rear axle click would sound way different. I hope it is not a pinging. I hope you get the issue solved. I was lucky and the rear axle tsb solved my issue.

 

Well its mostly a metallic clicking sound at low rpms.

 

this is the same problem i'm having. I brought my car to Infiniti Dealer to have it checked on Tuesday this week, and the guy, not the machanic, the customer consultant told me that it's normal because of the ABS self check. He's a customer consultant, working in the office plus no experience from actual work, so i don't know is he right or not. So i will have it checked again in a different dealer next week.

Ok, here's a quick overview about the noise. My car is AT, if it runs by itself (meaning i'm not pushing the gas pedal) then everything's fine. The noise happens when i give it a little gas, the noise is metallic, it's like the front wheels got stuck to the covers under the fenders. But the noise is not from the wheels (I checked those wheels). I'm sure that it's from the underhood, it can be from engine, belts or somewhere close to the engine. The noise happens really quick, about a second and gone. After that, everything's fine, the car runs great, strong and real smooth. Everytime the engine is turned on, and i run the car about 30-40 feet, the noise happens only once.

Way to solve: I tried this for about 2 days, and i think it worked. First of all, i warmed up the car, and then i ran the car. But i didn't give the car a little gas, i pushed the gas pedal a bit harder than what i usually do. Usually the noise happens when in low RPM, around 1k5-2k, this time i bring it up more than 3k and you know that, the noise didn't happen. I tried this way for just 2 days, it's worked so far. You guys should try this too, to see if it works or not. But anyways, i'll bring the car to have it checked again.

One more thing, my car is 05, AT.

 

problem solved, turned out to be a noisy/failing rear wheel bearing.

 

that's unpredictable. The noise is from the front but the real problem is the rear wheel bearing. Thanks anyways. I'll have my car checked for that part.
