SC vs. TC

What's the difference between a supercharger and a turbocharger in terms of power. I know you can get more out of a turbo but I really wouldn't wanna go past 400 hp anyways. Also, if you prefer one over the other, which is the best one.

Re: SC vs. TC

Turbo chargers produce 'more' power because there is no parasectic load on the engine. All boost is created by exhaust fumes rotating an impellar. A supercharger is gear driven, so it takes power to make power. The Vortech S/C is a turbo unit with a gear attached in place of the impellar. S/Cs are much easier to install (less tubing) and are generally more reliable. Superchargers are generally cheaper too. Compared to a TT setup there is a lot less to install on a SC.

They do both work in the same manner, they force more air into your manifold then a normal air intake.

Re: SC vs. TC

The other difference, is that a supercharger generates a more even boost in power across the whole RPM range, since it's driven by the crankshaft, boost is available "off the line" and in the low rpm ranges.

Turbochargers spool up off the exhaust gas, so the RPM's have to climb up to activate it. There's a lag from the time you push the pedal to the time the turbo provides extra power (though it's a lot shorter these days than it used to be).. but then the turbo can spin up really fast and provide more boost than a supercharger.
