S/C Install Questions
S/C Install Questions
Has anyone installed a S/C on a Z or G coupe? I've had my procharger sitting in the garage for about 3 months now and I think I am going to attempt to put it on myself. I've seen one installed on a Z by my local shop and it doesn't look that difficult, as long as it is PROFESSIONALLY tuned in the end. I have a descent knowledge of mechanical stuff, of how S/Cs & intercoolers work, and of the G. Is there any reason why I shouldn't attempt this myself?
I am also planning on having my ECU reflashed by TS and I will be installing larger fuel injectors. Has anyone installed injectors on this engine? Any tips on this?
Thanks for your responses,
Kevin

If you can read and follow instructions, as well as turn a wrench, anyone can install a supercharger. The actual bolting up part is not what you have to worry about, but rather the running (and possibly tunning) of the unit. Its rare that people screw up the install and end up messing the kit up unless you simply are an indiot and forgot to bolt it on and go to start it up and the charger flies off its bracket. The areas of concearn have to deal with fuel supply and pinging. The fuel supply, although easy to install and setup on the G, requires a little know how and common sense. For starters you want to be certain what you have done isnt leaking and its working (fuel pump wirring and all). Without the extra fuel, you wont be able to meet the demands of the boosted engine, in which then you can have serious problems. Pinging is next and thats making sure the engine is compensating for the boost and retarding the timing when it goes into boost. 80% of "blown" SC engines are due to pinging and the owner not knowing what he or she was hearing or doing, before its too late and the damage is done. So its not so much the actual "install" you have to worry about, but more IMO the initial operation of the unit that you should be more concearned with, because the first thing everyone wants to do is head out on to the open road and see what got for the $$$$ they spent, but thats when the damage occurs (if not setup right) and by the time you get back home, the damage is done. If you feel confident and know what you're getting into, then get out the tools, but if you're questioning (like you are) then leave it to the pros.
