Dynamat in progress, part 1 (w/ pics)
Hey all,
I got my dynamat in a few days ago, and thought today would be a good day to start the process. I have never used dynamat before, so today was the first time applying it.

I got this "bulk" kit (dynamat extreme) off ebay for about $90 plus shipping. Contains 36 sq. feet in the form of 9 sheets
I used the DIY rear seat removal posted by "nycg35" found here: https://g35driver.com/forums/showfla...&part=all&vc=1
Great write up!
Back to the topic. I found it easiest to make a template out of paper and then transfer it to the dynamat for cutting.
Here is what the original back looks:
<img src=http://img38.photobucket.com/albums/v117/cryhavok/dynamat/DSCF0005.jpg>
Notice the olive drab mat. It is not glued down or anything, rather just sitting there. I don't know how good it does at dampening the sound.
Here is a pic of the first sheet I applied.
<img src=http://img38.photobucket.com/albums/v117/cryhavok/dynamat/DSCF0006.jpg>
The sheets are rather easy to apply. Once the template is made, simply start at a corner and slowly press into the crevases and such. I used a 1" wallpaper wooden roller to help smooth everything out and make sure there is a tight bond between the dynamat and the metal.
I cut a special piece to cover the lids, rather than just leaving it solid. No need to do anything if they have to be removed.
I finished the other side and used some of the scraps to fill in some of the other areas.
<img src=http://img38.photobucket.com/albums/v117/cryhavok/dynamat/DSCF0007.jpg>
This is not a quick project, nor is it relaxing work. :P Tomorrow I will work and remove the side panels to get to the wheel wells, where I will put 2 layers of dynamat. Then I'll move up to the front of the car and do under the floormats/front wheel wells. Leftovers will probably be put in the trunk area.
With these layers, there is a slight decrease in road noise. The real "hot" spots are above the wheel wells.

How much did that box weigh? Just wondering how much added weight we're talking .

g35mt,
I'm planning on doing the rear wheel wells, which require removing the rear panels to get to the front of the wells. The back of them can be accessed through the trunk. I will take pics of before/after all the areas that I do.
dyenboy,
Tomorrow I'm going to focus on doing the wheel wells.
quikrocket,
I put the dynamat in inorder to get rid of the road (tire) noise. Our cars aren't exactly the quietest of the bunch inside the cabin, so hopefully I can get rid of some of the noise. It should also help clarity of the stock system a little (less sound the music has to "overcome")
TrentaCinque,
The box weighs 15 lbs, read from the shipping sticker. I'm not worried about the weight gains. For me, a more peaceful ride (when I want it, I normally drive windows down, but there are always those times when taking a nice girl out and quiet is in need) give me greater satisfaction than having 15 less pounds.

I agree with you there. 15lbs isn't that much added weight. How much of the car do you think you'll be able to do with what came in that box?

Well, It took 2 sheets to do all of under the seats. I figure another 3 sheet total to do both front wheel wells/under the carpet of the passenger/driver. The package contains 9 sheets total. Probably a sheet for each rear wheel well.
So that leaves me 2 sheets for doubling up on the 4 wheel wells.

I see you're as **** about it as I was with my '97 Mits. GSX!
I went for complete coverage as well. lol It did help on the sound a great deal... ...considering the Mits. had NO sound insulation material in the cargo area (besides the carpet & mat).
It is extremely heavy stuff, but as was mentioned you're not adding a ton of weight. And look at it this way: Besides the sound insulation, you're improving the weight distribution some.
lol
