Problem - 2003 G35 - Please Help

Hi All:
I have a 2003 G35 with approximately 90K miles. As of late, my engine has been making a poor noise particularly when accelerating. Also, when I floor the vehicle, the acceleration is generally inferior than in years past. The engine also has an audible "tick" when sitting idle.

An auto shop has told me that I need a "Run Rite" servicing. Can anyone confirm this or provide any further insight?? Thanks in advance!

as with any high mileage vehicle, you'll start to get noise similar to the ones you've decribed. The ticking if from the valves and are usually more prominent with higher mileage.

you'll get to know that the G35, however, gets those noises even with low mileage. I would change the oil and see if the reduces some of the ticking.

The other noises are from tranmission and rubber belts. Maybe changing the tranmission fluid and rear differential fluid will help also. It's just a plain ol' noisy car.

do you think that using 87 octane gas could also be contributing to this?

^ yeah it's possible. Some people here who have used 87octane experienced some pinging but then you have some that were completely ok with it. It's 50/50, but since you have more mileage on yours, it's a good possibility it's causing some problems.

If you have a Coupe then it is possible. Infiniti says the Coupes require premium fuel. Since you are new I will give you a little bit of advice......don't start a thread asking if it is really necessary to use premium in a Coupe. You will be flamed beyond belief! If you do a search about the premium fuel issue you will see what type of responses you will get. Just trying to save you a little trouble. Back on the topic though, if you do have a Coupe then put premium in it and see if that helps at all. Even if it doesn't, you should still continue using premium. Not using premium would usually result in knocking though, not really a ticking sound as you described.

I have had my 05 for 10 days. I haven't noticed any odd noises from the front of the car. I have about 40k less miles than you however. When I bought my car I asked the dealership to put premium in it as I would be driving it 190 miles to get back home. They put 87. I drove the CRAP out of it until I ran it to the idiot light, then refilled with 93. I runs like a happy G now. It made a HUGE difference. If you have been running 87 in it regularly, you may want to change the fuel filter and then gas it with 93. Also, Try Lucas treatment next time you gas up. Or any other decent fuel additive. My hubby is a gearhead and is a Bridgestone 'employee' and a Lucas distributor. He swears by it. And once you get high mileage like that also try synthetic oil - we use only Mobile1 - no matter how many miles we have. Worth a try!! Sure wouldn't hurt. (PS hubby has a 96EB Bronco with over 250k - still runs strong, no engine/ tranny problems. Must have been doing something right!)

Q45tech said something like no VQ engine had to have it's valve adjusted in the history of man kind... (something along that lines)..

But if your car has 90k miles on it, i wouldn't stress TOO much about small noises.. my car has 83k miles on it now, and i have no small noises. But understandable with a car with over 80k and 5 years of service..
I would make sure you have oil in it though.. lol.

Try premium gas, add a can of SeaFoam (I've had Mercedes mechanics swear by it), use a premium motor oil like Mobile1, Valvoline, Havoline, etc. I've always used Valvoline (not synthetic, but regular) and have not had a problem with a motor in over 35 years. Good luck!
