Angry Help! Serious ticking noise coming from engine!

OK, so after about an hour of searching, I have given up. Here's my problem.

I'm getting really LOUD ticking/clicking noises coming from my engine. Noises start from the minute I turn on the car. The lower my RPMs the slower the ticking. I rev'd the engine a little to listen to the noise a bit more and the ticking definitely was louder and faster.

This started yesterday afternoon after an oil change. Used all the same products and did the same procedure to change the oil, so I seriously doubt it could be related since I have never had a problem with any oil change in the past.

I spoke to a friend of mine and was told that it could be the valves? (Engine-wise I don't know much)

I had my car taken to the dealer this morning and they said they'd look at it and get back to me with the problem.

So, I was just wondering if anyone on here has had the same problem, or at least have a better idea of what's going on?

If the ticking is coming from front of engine bay check your belts.
My belts were frayed and would make slight rubbing sound as they spun around pulleys. And of course noise was louder and faster if i rev'd engine.

thanks...

I was just told that it could be the oil consumption problem. The dealer said that the noise is gone now, and I should return in 1k miles. They changed the oil AGAIN, and said that I was really low on oil before, which is weird because it was changed yesterday. So I don't know... :/

Lots of info about Oil Consumption issues. You should be getting new engine. Low oil from 1 day to next seems pretty severe. Try and get Infiniti corporate involved if you get any **** from dealer. Stay on top of that.

Good luck.

Are you still on Driver?
What was the outcome from the dealership?
My **** just started doing it when I tried to start it up 2night. It has been sitting since Monday, with no problems. I'm not going to drive it at all, hopefully I can make it to the dealership on Monday.
Thank God for warranties.

Okay, so i started her up...and it was still ticking...and i babied her all the way to the dealership (about 5 miles), and by the time i got there, there was no more ticking.
So they recommended that i let the engine cool off, and start it up again, to see if it comes back. After a good 30min cool down, and start up... No ticking...

So i guess i had just let the car sit too long, and ALL the oil was on the bottom. So tragedy averted, i guess.

Mr Exclusive, I would agree with you that if your car sat too long, it would invariably make more noise when starting up since the oil has not yet lubed the top.. however, if i were you, try to clean your engine out and put new oil in it. I suggest Seafoaming your car, driving it for bout 300-400 miles then performing an oil change. the seafoam will help loosen any gunk/build up in the engine

Really late on my response, I know...

Anyway, to update what happened,

I took it to the dealer and they were testing it for the oil consumption. Since then, I have taken it back 2 more times to check the levels, and I am due next week for my final oil change. The car has worked fine since then which is really weird. And to top it off, I've been driving it really hard lately.

So we'll see what happens.
