$1,200 to spend - on what?

I currently cashed in a little life insurance policy that I forgot I had and now I have $1,200 burning a hole in my pocket - I have the Kinetix plenum coming in from the GB in about 2-3 weeks, so what should I use this money for? My #1 option is an exhaust (one that will calm the raspiness of the test pipes but still sound mean) - I know the GReddy EVO II is coming soon and I've heard a few 350Z's with them & test pipes/cats and they sound mean! That would pretty much take up the entire $1200 (after install) - are there any other, cheaper routes to go w/ exhausts? I was thinking before of maybe getting the GReddy SP2 axle-back, a y-pipe, and replacing the resonator in the stock mid-pipe - do you think that will calm the raspiness down? That route would be around $900 - then I'd have $300 for something else...

I dont' know, guys - help me out here! any and all suggestions are welcome!

You could almost do a Borla AND high flow cats for that money.

intake, cats and plenum. You'll have enough money left over to buy some aluminum pedals if you shop around...

Injen SES exhaust = 750ish
Kinetix cats = 410ish

install yourself...super easy and about 4 hours of work if you take your time. See the thread I started in the Coupe forum for details.

2 G or NOT 2 G, there is no question!

Injen SES, Kinetix cats, K&N Typhoon, 19" PIAA Super Rozza's (19x9 & 19x10)

Re: $1,200 to spend - on what?

bzabodyn,

Randy and -Fish are making good mod choices, but they might be overlooking one thing. There are 4 "choke points" if you will on the G35.

1. The intake tube with resonators
2. The stock plenum (some might argue this point)
3. The cats
4. The Y-Pipe
(Some might add headers between 2 & 3, but for now let's skip them)

If you want more power from your G you might want to consider making changes to BOTH sides of the intake and exhaust. Randy and -fish were both advocating that you swap out the exhaust side only, but in all actuality you MIGHT not gain as much hp if you only mod one side of the equation. Remember, more air into the engine AND more air out of the engine creates the most cost effective hp (unless you go FI).

I'd recommend that you hold off on the exhaust for now, until you have another $650-$2000 to blow (ummm I mean spend).

FYI, I have dynoed a little over 16 rwhp increase recently with the RT Cats, Z-Tube, JWT P/C, and Crawford V5 Plenum. Has anyone else gained as much with only the cats and exhaust?

Let us know what you end up doing!

I assumed he already had the plenum on order (the Kinetix) and figured the Z tube was a given!

I agree with Neff. You must apply with balance. Air in, air out. Z tube is mandatory.

Re: $1,200 to spend - on what?

umm,ok - I guess no one took the time to look at my signature at the mods I already have:

Pro-1 Short Ram Intake
UR Pulley
Helix Test Pipes
Grounding Kit
Kinetix Plenum (on the way)

I really need only an exhaust to round out my first round of N/A mods (Vortech next year) - therefore, I am asking advice on what exhaust to get that will: 1) provide decent gains on a N/A and possibly F/I car and 2) will quite the raspiness of the test pipes - I don't mind loud, but I don't really like the sound I have now...

Thanks for the responses and your attempts to give advice, but I think I've made my mind up already - GReddy Evo II....

Yeah sorry... I hardly ever read the "krap" at the bottom of peoples posts. Just give the money to someone who is less fortunate...
