this is quite normal. I hear this all the time on cars that have just received an oil change. it takes a bit of time for oil to reach the top of the engine. I suspect its the timing solenoids.

I would use the recommended 5w30 oil.

I have a very faint and quiet rattling noise upon startup. I am certain that it is caused by the timing chain tensioners. I am not too worried about it. It is common for hydraulic tensioners to have low pressure initially upon startup, especially after a few years of use. Even if I were to replace the tensioners, the same problem would come back after 40,000 miles.

I am currently using the German Castrol 0w30 oil, which is designed for german cars and have the viscosity of an API certified 10w40. The oil is so thick that I feel an immediate loss of power and it exhibits of some of the oil starvation problem at startup as described above.

I have been having this problem now for a while but it is always at random cold start ups. It's only on start up and after there is nothing. I later got a rod nock because I spun a rod barring so I rebuilt the block with forged pistons (11:1) and rods, boring the block +.20 over and the crank was polished due to it being if great shape. (everything in the block is new but the crank). Even after having the motor rebuilt I still have the noise. I went back to the place that built the motor and he said it's more then likely the chain and not enough oil getting to the top of the motor at start up. I have asked around with local performance shops and they say it could be my timing chain or a lifter. I have been using MOTUL 5w-30 Full Synthetic oil with a mobil1 oil filter.
I have been getting some money together to build my heads up so until I get the cash for that does anyone have any farther suggestions then whats been brought up?

Car has 100k on the clock now. Will try changing over to 30wt on next oil change.
