Flushed my Radiator Yesterday....

Everytime I get my oil changed, if I'm lazy and take it somewhere, they always tell me..."After 60,000 Miles we suggest a radiator flush, etc" I got home and I looked at the overflow resevoir and saw a hint of something other than green so I decided to take a trip to Wally world and buy the stuff I needed. I bought a couple jugs of concetrated Prestone for 9 bucks a piece, Prestone Radiator Super Flush and Prestone radiator fluid additive.

I didn't jack the car up, I just pulled the car far enough out of the garage where a two inch lip gave me enough room to get a phillips screw driver in there to remove the plug. After I removed the plug, I took the Radiator cap off (fluid was cooled by this point). I let everything drain completely and put the plug in. I pulled the overflow off and washed it out well with water. I put the contents of the radiator flush in, and filled with water. I ran it for 10 minutes on highest heat setting and drained. Filled with water and ran 10 minutes again and drained. Then I added some 50/50 mixture of prestone and put the bottle of additive in, and filled the rest of it up with more 50/50 mix.

I ran the car for another 20 minutes to make sure nothing was leaking. I check the level and everything was okay, so I drove around the block a few times. After I let it cool down I check the level and adding more coolant to the resevoir and called it a day. All in all, this is a time consuming process since I had to wait for the coolant to cool down before every draining. But, it was a good time for me to get a good layer of wax on the car. It was a lot cheaper than having it done at shop, but it takes a while longer.

*Also, I didn't have to remove the splash shield because it had an inch hole precut to access the drain plug.

If anyone is interested in more detailed step by step procedures, let me know, and I'd be happy to help.
