HELP!

hey, guys, dunno if you can help. but i just took a 30 minute drive on the freeway to a restaurant. when i get out of the car after parking i noticed this burning rubber smell and then noticed some smoke mostly coming from the right side of the under of the car. it look like it was coming from the y-pipe. i was kinda worried but didn't think it needed towing so i drove back for about 20 minutes and was able to make it back. same thing happened after i got out.

do you guys think there's a leak in the piping under there. also, when i open the hood, i can smell it from there as well, but the smoke comes from the bottom, i'm just hoping its not transmission related. i'm going to bring it to a dealer tomorrow but i just wanted to see what u guys would say first . . . thanks

Re: HELP!

Sounds like maybe you got something stuck to your exhaust piping somewhere, like maybe a plastic bag or something like that! Are you able to get under the car and inspect it?

Or maybe I'm just a little too optimistic..

Re: HELP!

You could be correct with the plastic bag. I once had a huge plastic bag stuck to my exhaust. Stunk like hell and pain in the rear to rremove it because some had melted onto the exhaust. It stunk for a couple of weeks before they all burnt out, and I had to park it outside the garage all this time.

Re: HELP!

ROFL....its gotta be a plastic bag....

To fix the problem...

1) drive hard or moderately hard for around 5 minutes. This will heat the bag up and turn it into gel form (cold=solid, hot=gel -almost liquid)

2) grab a long 2x4 and scrape it off of the exhaust pipes (with the car still on, in your driveway).

3) You should be able to get 95% of the residue off of your exhaust pipes.

4) The remaining smells will go away after a few days. Nothing to worry about.

HOPE THIS HELPS!!!
