Help with Mechanical Fan Removal

Help Guys!!!
I took every possible bolt of the clutch and pulley and it will not come of. I am sure I can take of the clutch without taking the entire bracket off.

The CO22 page from the service manual is not very specific.

Help please!!

The 4 small (10mm I think - 21082C in the pic) nuts at the back of the clutch boss (20182) hold the fan onto the bracket and pulley, but it also has a bit of an interference fit - it's tight. You need to prise it off.

It will not come of !
I even took the clutch apart, i got the 4 bolts that go into the pulley.

It is looser but I am talking milimeters, but i do not want to pound it hard.

There is no nuts like the 21082C

Anything I am missing?

The nuts are small nuts - 10mm - that bolt the clutch onto the end of the shaft on the bracket. They look large in the picture but they are very small. I think when I first pulled mine off it was quite tight too, but I pounded and prised.

Your best bet if you don't want to pound it is to remove the bracket. There are three bolts that hold it onto the block, I think a 14mm socket and a short extension would take them out.

Did you take off the plastic fan blades? That should give you some more room.

Just the 4 10mm nuts hold on the fan. These were difficult to remove though, as the fan wants to spin. I used a prybar to keep the pulley from spinning while I used a 10mm open ended wrench to get the nuts off. It was a batch, but once the 4 nuts were removed, the pulley just slides off easily.

Glad to help. I had to take mine off because the shaft in the bracket got damaged in an accident with the previous owner and he never changed it. Eventually the bearings went and the fan went forward into the radiator

Glad to hear I was not the only one. The fan blades broke of the clutch and went into the radiator, making few holes.

E fan time!

While I'm still not convinced the e-fan mod does anything for these cars (until proven otherwise by solid before/after dyno), I would love to see a DIY if you have time to do one. There use to be a DIY years ago, but it appears to be gone now.

Sure as hell beats having a fan in the radiator! I put back another fan and clutch, but I'd love to see a DIY conversion too.

Did the coupes ever have the mechanical fans? If not, I'm not sure why this thread was moved here. It's an early sedan only thing.
