Help on dyno results

Ok so I headed out today to the South Florida dyno day, and got some disappointing news. My car with Nismo Intake, DC Headers & Greddy Exhaust dynoed 226hp the guys said that my car was running super lean and that it was detonating so they would not do a 3rd pull. They recommended taking the car to the dealer and asking them to re flash my ecu with the newest software, which they said might correct the problem. Has anybody else had a problem like this?

I will say that the reason I took the car today was because I felt it slower after my header install, like the car was choking when I gunned it, and I have also noticed that I use to get like 17mpg now I am getting 19.2+ could this have anything to do with it. Any feed back would be appreciated thanks. - By the way my car is automatic.

Re: Help on dyno results

Did you ask for the a/f ratio?

The a/f ratio as to be under 12/1

Re: Help on dyno results

What octane fuel are you running? I've been worried about any more mods for just that reason. I pester Technosquare weekly about their 2004 ECU. No joy.

Re: Help on dyno results

spinal--

you are referring to FI a/f ratios..........

non- FI will have different needs (less fule, for sure)

after the headers, did you unplug the ECU ? (resetting it))??

id try that first, then make it back to the SAME dyno

-eS

ps- what type of dyno was this (matters alot))??? what CF (correction factor) was applied, and, how hot out was it (assuminmg they ha some sort of fan running, to at least help lower engine temps)

Re: Help on dyno results

I would consider a Technosquare Flash with your current mods factored. You need to get the AF down to 12 or bad things will happen.

Re: Help on dyno results

As a comparison (kind of)...I installed a Borla exhaust and cats at the same time. At first the car ran like crap--probably like you described. After maybe 150 miles it ran excellent. It took that long for the ECM to adapt to the additional airflow. Might be the same case with your car. If it's still a problem then you might need a Technosquare flash of your ECM.

Re: Help on dyno results

I would start with resetting your ECU . Your A/F is very high !!!!! . Or the dyno's o2 sensor is way off . For a N/A car 12.0 to1 A/F is way to rich . ...12.8 to 13.0 at wot in the upper rpm range is a good place to start .I would reset ECU and go to a diff. dyno and see if you get diff. results

Re: Help on dyno results

Did they stick a "sniffer" into the exhaust tip? If so, this is a very inaccurate way to measure a/f ratios. You should have a "bung" drilled into your exhaust (I think before the O2 sensor in the cats) and measure the a/f ratio there. This would yield a more accurate reading.

I was planning on doing this, but w/ all the talk of RT Cats collapsing, I figured that I should hold off. Plus I'm looking for a good dyno shop in Central Florida.

Technosquare might be going on in about 1 month... Still haven't made up my mind.

Good Luck.

Re: Help on dyno results

The thing is they it was a 350z/g35 dyno day, and all the other coupes were running well, only mine gave those results. But nobody else there from what I could tell had Headers installed, I was wondering would headers make sure a huge difference in the a/f ratios ?

I actually searched online and find the easy ecu reset thread and followed those instructions and was able to get it to reset, does this really work ?

After reading online I think that my best bet will be an Apexi fuel controller.

Re: Help on dyno results

Your car will probably feel a bit slower because the ECU will be backing out a lot of timing if it senses detonation (which from the looks of the A/F graph it probably is).

If you can get your A/F down below 14.0:1 that'd be a good place to start, but ideally you probably want to be between 12.5-13.5:1 at the lean end of the scale. That'll give you a little buffer for a so-so tank of gas or other weird issues on a daily driven car.

Re: Help on dyno results

Thanks for everyones feedback, but I am still lost. I called DC Sports today to ask them if on the car that they used to test these headers on had any sort of fuel modifcations, and they said no, they said that it might be a bad installation ? That maybe one of the sensors is broken. I have driven with these headers for about 300+ miles already and no check engine lights. Does this make sense ?

They also said maybe the MAF in the intake was not re connected correctly after the header install and could be getting wrong readings ? Still lost.

Could it be my intake I am using the NISMO V2 intake for the 350z, the one that has its own slot for the MAF, should I put my stock intake on and then re dyno it ?

P.S. Anybody know of any good tuners in the 305 please let me know.

Re: Help on dyno results

Also the one thing that I didnt mention when they finished my dyno my VDC, ABS lights were on and my NAV was flashing ABS errors and asking me to take it to the dealer. But once the car was turned on and moved they all went away. Could they have done something wrong during the dyno ? (My car is automatic)

Re: Help on dyno results

No...the lights came on because the front tires were not turning and back were .That wouldnt hurt any thing .I would check the intake and make sure the MAT is on correct .Diconnect and reconnect
