Re: Crawford Plenum and Cats
I have them both. No downside to either. The plenum produces more punch, because it fixes a design deficiency (front two cylinders are getting to little air). I definitely felt the difference with both mods. The cats were a perfect fit, and change the exhaust sound as well as increase power. The sound is lowered and has more a growl. Nothing obtrusive however. I would recommend both mods.
Again - No Downside.

Re: Crawford Plenum and Cats
yep..
have them both installed
i dislike the color i got (wanted alum color, but stettled for black powdercoat).... the plenum fits VERY well, with no sifgns of warping on mine....
the cats (had a second O² bung welded in upstream of the cat too!) are top shelf, and flow better than stock, but still help clean the emissions some....
fit and finish on the cats superior to stock units, by far.....
you wont be disappointed with them, IMO (just read up on what to expect, number-wise) from their performance gains....

Do any of you guys drive your car everyday.? I was conserned about the (off road use only) warning that they have over the cats.
Do any of you guys have a ECU upgrade also ? Or is it really nesserry at this point ?

Re: Crawford Plenum and Cats
I've got the Crawford Plenum and the RT Cats. I'd recommend the Crawford Cats over the RT's for several reasons...
1. RT's have had problems with collapsing
2. RT's are more expensive
3. Doug Crawford seems to be a pretty cool guy
If you get the plenum and cats, make sure to pay a little more and get a Z-Tube to allow more "unrestricted" air flow into the plenum... Then you'll probably be running lean so you'll need the TS ECU upgrade, but then you might as well get an exhaust on first so that they can "tune" the ECU upgrade to all of your mods. Basically I've just told you to spend about ~$2500 for NA mods that will yield maybe 30rwhp.
For another ~$2500 you might as well just have the VORTEC S/C installed and add on 100rwhp, but then you would not have any of the cool stuff above that I mentioned, so maybe...
D. all of the above
...is the correct answer...
301-bhp!!! ...and growing!

Re: Crawford Plenum and Cats
I've got the Crawford combo + stillen exhaust. Raspiness only from the ctas when revved without a load (in gear and running) Love 'em, although if you are mashing the gas as often as I, you will see your gas mileage get down to 17-18.
Also, whenb you are running the same intake/exhaust as me, you will be running lean and will require an ECU from TechoSquare.
Love the sound and power.. gotta run, cheers, Ted

From what I understand Neff, adding another $2500 will allow you buy the Vortech but you are looking atleast another $2K to have everything installed (including gauges) and tuned. So realistically an S/C will probably cost you over $7K and that doesn't include an ECU reflash.

Can only speak to the plenum and its been on three days...LOVE it. Dynoed pre-plenum and will be back to the dyno this week to see what it did numbers wise. Ears and butt says a beast has been awakened.....Rod

Re: Crawford Plenum and Cats
I have both Crawford products mentioned installed, and the Crawford headers. I haven't really gotten to drive it too much (just enough to get a speeding ticket) but I will tell you that my Dad has totally taken over MY car. He loves everything about it, and I'm sure he loves the fact that I paid for it all.... Who can complain about totally free ~400rwhp?

Re: Crawford Plenum and Cats
I am planning on putting in the helix test pipes and borla exhaust for the sedan. Im hearing a lot about running lean and needing to get the TS Ecu. Also do I need headers for the max. performance? Is it not worth it to get test pipes and exhaust with out them? I wouldnt think so and also what about the kinetic or crawford plenum, damm im mixed up on which to get.

Re: Crawford Plenum and Cats
I'm running the plenum and cats with a Borla exhaust - love it!Talked to Doug Crawford about the running lean issue.Based on what he’s seen with Z’s, he expects that I’m running at an a/f in the high 12’s. He believes that’s absolutely not a problem for an NA VQ35 engine (also, I’m on the east coast, so I’m running 93 octane, not 91 like cali people. That may make a difference). Doug's dubious about getting any definitive idea of the a/f mix by pulling a plug; he expects you'll see a white tip on a stock VQ35. Tailpipe sniffers are iffy, so do what esemes did and get a second bung installed on the cats so you can get an 02 reading and find out what's realy going on wth your a/f mix.
Anyway, I've had no detectable knocks, pings etc. with this setup, although I guess the ECU could be removing timing as an anti-knock measure, robbing me of some possible performance gains.
By the way, this is & has been my daily ride; 18k miles since I got it in Jan. '03.

Re: Crawford Plenum and Cats
u have almost the same setup that i am going to be going with (minus the borla... i want injen exhaust). I also am going to probably be adding tein flex dampers and 19" volk gtc's.... I was kinda wondering about running to lein also as i have a new 2004 (1500 miles) which i assume is a 2004.5 which the ecu upgrade is not available for yet. Once the ecu upgrade is out.. im going to be getting it.. assuming that my car has all the things that im planning on getting in the next month

Re: Crawford Plenum and Cats
where can a crawford plenum be purchased.... if i dont want to send back my stock plenum it costs 700 instead of 500? that kinda sucks but i think that i would probably do it just because of realiability and in case i dont pass emissions i could throw on my old plenum and intake setup for a day, pass emissions, and then reinstall it all (if it would help any lol). I guess im probably being overcausios with my stock plenum and i was thinking of having it professionally installed (with my intake and cats) just because i wil ask them to inspect it for warping beforehand and wont have to worry about over-torqueing it or anything. It'll be about 130 dollars for the crawford to get installed at a shop tho.... and the installation seems pretty easy is the only thing that im really looking at with a little disaproval. I told the shop that id be buying their injen ses for 900 and letting them install it for 70 and asked if i brough a crawford they would install it and they said for 140 they would..... i really feel confident in my ability to install the plenum tho.... so i dunno.

Re: Crawford Plenum and Cats
Here's the deal, take the Crawford plenum (that you buy form crawfordzcar.com) and lay it on your dinner table. If your table is flat simply lay the plenum on the clean tabletop and see how much it rocks. You can take a ruler and measure any warpage. 1/16 to 1/8 inch is not a problem due to the double gasket "fix", but anything more and I'd pack it back up and send it back to Doug.
The plenum is a pretty easy DIY, about as easy as the Z-Tube and JWT P/C.
If you go to the website, the Crawford plenum costs $395.00 if you send your "core" back to Doug. If you want it to be powder coated it will run you another $20 (or $415). If you want to keep your core, you will pay an additional $200. I don't know why you would have a problem with emissions if you leave your stock cats on the car. The plenum should not affect anything as far as emissions goes (this is the perfect segue for Q45tech to add his insight)...
