Taking a big step..........

I want to go FI. I want to add the performance of a sc w/ other bolt on mods and still have a reliable daily driver. I DON'T want to go ***** to the wall and squeeze every drop of hp + ft/lbs out of this car. Here is where I am at- Borla dual exhaust, Stillen headers and Random Tech cats are in my garage ready to go on. Defi fuel press./boost/air-fuel gages on the way. For the supercharger I have been eyeing the Vortech. What changes will have to be done.... chip tuning? colder plugs? fuel pressure regulator upgrade? bigger injectors? .... etc???.. For the level of performance I want out of the car, what is neccessary and what is not. The work will be done at an auth. vortech installer and they will doing the tuning also. I'll be researching the forums for info. Any help would be great

Vortech is a good choice. The kit requires no injector upgrades nor ECU programming. You'll want to run 1 step colder plugs but even that isn't an absolute necessity if your car is new.

BTW, there is NO SUCH THING as an authorized Vortech installer, only authorized Vortech resellers. The key IMO is whether or not your tuner knows how to use the R4 software to custom tune the SS box that comes with the Vortech kit.

Re: Taking a big step..........

I guess this question is for zimbo or any other vortech guru.

once you get the r4 software and get the car mapped to a good safe condition, can't you save a file in the software?

What I'm getting at is: couldn't a person with a similar setup that has his car running great email another person starting out his r4 file? It seems like it would eliminate wasteful dyno runs on an untuned motor, or should everyone just start from scratch.

Just got the word that my vortech is being shipped friday, and my jwt flywheel & clutch got here today!

I want to be on top of my game, but I still have so much to learn.

You could absolutely use someone else's file as a starting point and then just tweak from there. There are differences that affect A/F levels enough that you'd want to make sure you did the first few runs with an A/F gauge just to be safe.
